    In those days we used mics, and a direct input also. These days they're are so many good preamplifier, you can probably just use one directly into the console. In Finland at the moment, playing with some friends in Lahti tonight.

    In my experience, you'll hear yourself better because they have more mids, but that doesn't mean you'll sound better. Bass likes lows.

    So, about 10 years late... but the tone is through my line 6 bass unit, which I pretty much use to match my acoustic 470 amp; add a little compression, and I use the distortion emulator on the line 6 that is basically a proco rat. This is the only time I use distortion.
