Got the same issue.. shielded with copper foil and grounded it but the noise is still there.. its worse in passive mode.. I am considering changing the pickups to Aguilar hum cancelling pickups.. I think the noise is coming from the pickups..

Try shielding the preamp and pickup cavities with copper tape and make sure its grounded.

Just got a used fender ultra jazz bass from GC... the neck is sturdy, sounds great.. noticed ground noise at first. Opened up the cavity and there was no shielding there.. shielded with copper tape and the ground noise is reduced. I also had to replace the bridge with an 18mm strings spacing...

Update: I eventually paired the RT5P in the neck with the stock bridge RT5 pickup. I was missing upper mids on the D and G strings with the 2 RT5P pickups.. pairing the RT5P in the neck and RT5 at the bridge brought out the upper mids and still got a very good slap tone..
