Try turning the wheel that has the wire coming out of it by 45 degrees both ways and see if it changes anything.

I have the Henriksen Blu 6, and it's great for upright and bass guitar in low to moderate volume settings. I think it would be worth the time to check it out.

Kolstein Sfot or All-Weather is my go-to. Pops is also quite popular.

I used to think this as well until I got my Peavey Cirrus, which has a lot of sustain. I found that I very much enjoy it.
