Last night my church group visited a re-hab facility to minister there. They had their own equipment there so we didn't take ours. I played their bass which to my surprise was a Fender Stratocaster bass. played like silk and sounded great. However, I'd never heard of a Strat bass and did some research this morning and did not find any information at all on this. Apparently, it does not exist. Does anyone know anything about a Fender (not Squire) Stratocaster bass?

There are several good reference materials, including YouTube videos and books on the early evolution of the P bass, Telecaster guitar and bass, and Strat guitar.

Nope. Doesn't exist.
Someone might have put a Stratocaster decal on a P or J headstock. Someone might even have custom-built a bass using Stratocaster design elements. But Fender didn't produce it, unless it was ordered as a one-off from the Custom Shop.
There was a Fender Bass VI that looked like a Stratocaster. Maybe that's what you played? Did it have 6 strings?

Landing Guitars make short scale basses that are very Strat-like.
Classic Player Rascal is the closest I could find.
If it was a Frankenbass, maybe a Godin Shifter for the body?

UK company called Retrovibe makes a few bass variations on the Strat. Probably my next impulse buy.
Probably a Landing bass. Not sure if he's around and building them still, but there's a couple on reverb. 30" Short scale.

I used to know a guy who owned a Starcaster Jazz Bass by Fender. When I first saw his bass, I thought it said "Stratocaster" on the headstock, but he told me it was a low-low-budget line by Fender below Squier.
