Pros and Cons of Mail Order Lumber

http://www.woodworkerssource.com/ These are the guys I use. The wood is kiln dried. Company is in Arizona so the wood does not sit around in a humid environment before shipping. I've never had any problems with cutting and gluing the day it comes off the truck.

CITES - What every bass player should know

I did not find Turnaround's original post to be any longer than it needed to be. CITES is a serious subject and not all information can be condensed to 140 characters.

    ebay vintage bass import horror

Beautiful work. If not for you it would have most likely wound up in the trash. I know the customer must have been thrilled with the results.

CITES - What every bass player should know

The Lacey Act requires someone purchasing an animal or plant item to exercise "Due Care" during the purchase. Your expected to play detective and ask questions. Your expected to know. I've stopped using cocobolo for fret-boards. Not just because it is now on CITES appendix 2, but because I don't...

    Music Cops

I'm guessing if you want to do a cover tune your going to have to find the owner of that song and pay to get a license to perform it. The owner of the club is going to have to verify that each cover band has the proper permits to perform the songs on their set lists.

    Rickenbacker 4003 neck&truss rod problem

Can you post some pictures of the problem? This will make it a lot easier for one of us to help you. My wife and I were in Istanbul back in 07. Spent a week there. A great town with a lot of friendly people. Had some of the best seafood ever at a restaurant at the Galata bridge.

    Wooden bridge

I've used purpleheart for wooden bridges and have been very happy with it. Not sure about bubinga. I think most tight grained and dense woods would be ok for a bridge.

Told Not to Use a Pick in a Store?

That is not actually a bad price. A small business has to usually get back three times their investment to keep the doors open and employees paid. Being a large chain they can afford to sell it for $1000 instead of $1200.

New Jeff Berlin Sig. Bass (Cort)

Grats to Jeff and his new bass. He is a great player and teacher. I however could not recommend anything produced by Cort until they get their act together regarding treatment of workers in their factories. http://cortaction.wordpress.com/about/

    Padouk body with Tru-Oil finish?

If your going to do any kind of finish sanding make sure the body is dust free before you add the oil. Getting that dust wet turns it into a stain that will be visible on your alder or ash. I've never had to grain-fill to get a good finish on it, but others may have different opinions. P.S...

Post your tips for solid B on a short scale

I just recently sold a 30" scale 5 string. Not the first one I've made. All of them had nice clear low B's using medium gauge strings. I've tried twice to make a 32" with a low B. Each time the low B came out slightly floppy and sounding like mud. Wound up stringing them E-C. For some reason I...

EMG 45TW pickup with coil selector switch

I use passive EMG hz's in most of my bass guitars. I always put in a toggle switch. Here are some switch diagrams from Stewmac. It shows a DiMarzio pickup but the wiring is the same as the EMG's I use. Maybe this will help. Invalid Link Removed

Balancing device for small bodied bass

I found this. Don't know if they have a patent or if your device would be considered close enough to this one to cause you any problems. Invalid Link Removed Yours looks more versatile.
