Vintage Selmer Ampeg SVT Preamp Filtering Mod?

Hey all, My old SVT started popping and cracking despite a fresh set of the power tubes recently so for the first time i went in to do some maintenance. I pretty easily recapped and replaced the power resistors in the power amp with a Fliptops kit. Upon entering the preamp section I noticed...

Vintage or Modern Bass for a old school recording studio?

You guys are great. I really feel comfortable now with my decision to look into current production basses. Thank you for those tracks you posted as well. Very convincing tone. Can't get more old school than that!

Vintage or Modern Bass for a old school recording studio?

Thanks for all the replies so far. It’s nice to see a consensus. We are recording a mix of straight classic rock and fusion, Latin, some 90s inspirations, Motown, funk all blended together. Killer point that beyond what vintage vs modern basses would sound like through the same amp and by same...

Vintage or Modern Bass for a old school recording studio?

Hi all, I'm not formally a bassist so I have come to this forum to gain insight from you all. I've been playing guitar for 25 years. I play enough bass to play the tracks on my originals and do recording. I'm looking to purchase a jazz bass for my studio as I prefer the jazz bass sound over the...

1976 Ampeg SVT rectangular logo plastic or metal?

Hi, I'm restoring a later 70s svt missing the front grill. Can some tell me whether the lowercase rectangular logo is silver on black and plastic or metal? The plastic one I found online. Is it period correct? Thanks

I've seen some posts claiming .70" at the first fret. What would average be?

Pre CBS Precision bass neck thickness range

Hi, On the rosewood Precisions, what is the range of thickness that can be encountered from front to back at the first fret. What would be considered a wide and flat neck valuewise and during what years was this neck most commonly produced? Which years are the thickest and thinnest? Thanks

Stock c neck on a 1964 jazz bass

Yes there is a jazz bass sticker. As a guitar player I tend to favor the a necks however the only precisions i played were modern ones.

Stock c neck on a 1964 jazz bass

I am considering driving over to see a vintage 64 jazz bass. One pic shows a c stamp on the neck heel. I am assuming this will be a wide neck 1.75 at the nut. Is this an uncommon variant and can it devalue the bass? The feel will probably significantly differ from the modern reissues that I have...
