The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Yeah, the guy I got it from had 20-some bass guitars, and this one owned for 30 years or so... He was just thinning the herd. Here's another pic in the old crusty case it came in.

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Hello all. I found this forum trying to do a little research on a bass I've been playing for a few years. I've been refinishing, building, modifying a 30" and 32" scale. This is my standard 34". I bought it on eBay 4 years ago, plays excellent. And it's old, so not messing with it. The only info...

Show me your compact pedalboard setup

I use a 10000 mAh battery pack that is also the power source for my pedals. I was skeptical going in, but this will last me at least 5 hours using 2 pedals on full time, and fuzz and octave when needed. Velcro'd to the bottom, wires all zip tied and clean. I just recharge the unit with a USC and...

Always-on Fuzz for classic rock? Anybody do this successfully?

I'm using a Big Muff, and will kick that on mostly during the guitarist solo's, along with an octaver with a side of 5th. As a 3 piece, I use it to fill in the empty when the guitarist is in his solo. Otherwise, unless the song calls for it, I don't really keep it on. With a 4 or 5 piece though...

Show me your compact pedalboard setup

Here's mine. We're a 3 piece, so when the guitarist dives into a solo, I use the lower two pedals for some grit and often an octave or 5th to fill the space. The JAM compressor and Microtubes stay on all the time. I have a rechargeable battery pack with enough power and outputs velcro'd to the...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Exactly what's going on for strings. Getting all set up at my old guitar guru. Tough thing is, I only found two manufacturers that makes round wound black medium scale strings. LaBella and D’Addario. If anyone else knows any others, let me know please! 40 bucks a pop for those things!

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Just got finished with this guy. Bought a 20 year old no-name off Reverb. I got tired of searching for a short(er) scale bass, many of them have a 38mm 1.5 inch jazz neck. I wanted something with a standard 42mm nut. This is a 31.75 inch scale 42mm neck, mahogany body. Ordered some antiqued...

    Painting pickguard

I just did this on a P bass. I'll post the build in another thread. But sanding with 600-1000 grit did the trick for me. Don't sand too hard, because the pickguard will heat up and warp/melt. Wiped it all with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils and dust. I set it up on a couple wood blocks taped...

Anyone know anything about Guild Starfire basses?

I bought the walnut Starfire I last year. Love the sound, the short scale neck. I'm a thinner dude so this body style is a bit bigger for me. It's going up for sale or trade. But if you like the semi hollow, try one out. I usually play it unplugged while around the house. It's loud enough to...

For Sale Boss Bass Overdrive ODB-3 Pedal

This pedal was bought new in 2001 and has seen very little stage time. Now that my metal days are over, putting it on here before CL if anyone is interested. Looks new still and comes in the original box with users manual. Pretty gritty distortion for those who still head bang. I've moved on to...

How bad (or good) was your first bass?

Peavy Foundation. The day after I got out of the Army (1995), my older brother took me to the local guitar joint. 'We're starting a band this week', he says. He pointed at a bass and an amp, and that was a Black Foundation and a Peavy TNT 15" amp that weighed as much as the Iron Giant. Always...

    Help identifying this bass

Well, I couldn't help myself. This bass seems to be a National Big Daddy by appearance, but there are no markings on this thing, whatsoever. I have not taken the neck off, maybe there's an identifier under there. All electronics work, neck is straight. Had to make some adjustments to the...

For Sale Took $50 off - GUILD Starfire 4 String Acoustic-Electric Bass Guitar - Vintage Walnut

Bought this bass last summer, trying out a semi-hollow short-scale bass. Took off the stock strings and put on some flat wounds, as you should with these basses. After 6 months of noodling around on it at home, it's just not the sound or feel I'm going for. SO, I thought I'd throw it on here...

    Help identifying this bass

My curiosity has grabbed me on this one...The bass is 2 hours North, I'll see it this Saturday. I'm hoping the screws in the bridge have it fixed to the body, and not decorative. I hope the neck is straight and it actually makes noise...I hope, I hope...starting to sound like Red at the end of...
