    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

See my photos on Page 151 at Post 3009. I used a thin leather strap that goes under the neck and around to the back and then both ends tied together which allows it to hang perfectly. Also, I switched to the La Bella Flatwound Stainless 760FHB2 light .039-.096 strings, and they sound amazing...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

Barry Clark Music in Wisconsin is VERY knowledgeable about all things Hofner, and offers fair deals. Their staff has great recommendations concerning strings, mods, parts and component swaps. They had an HCT available for me when nothing was available here on the West Coast.

I prefer lower for my generally softer attack style, so 5/64 for the E, and a bit lower for the others. Jefro.

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

A few months ago, I bought a Hofner HCT Contemporary Violin Bass with the semi-hollow body. I discovered the balance is very good due to the large wooden bracing inside (no neck dive). And I like the more modern sound from the factory roundwound strings. I prefer the clarity, along with the...

The Sterling By MusicMan SUB Ray 4 and 5 Club!!!!

It was an easy mod, just unsoldered the two stock pickup wires from the circuit board, then soldered the two new pickup wires in the same spots. There was a heavy ground shielding wire around the stock pickup wires that is not there on the new pickup. It was wired to the back of the pot, so...

The Sterling By MusicMan SUB Ray 4 and 5 Club!!!!

Patrickj, I'm glad you got it sorted out. The current Ray4 pickup is very hot and a bit muddy, and I decided to swap out my stock Ray4 pickup for an Aguilar AG4M, and am very happy with the sound and normal volume.

The Sterling By MusicMan SUB Ray 4 and 5 Club!!!!

I bought a 2023 MM Sterling Ray4 Stingray import from Indonesia recently, and after a few tweaks and a new Aguilar AG4M pickup, it sounds nearly as good as my great sounding Yamaha TRBX304 with D'Addario EXL170 Nickel Round Wounds in the middle selector position. I want to thank @LowEndLobster...

You didn't get the plastic cover with the EQ settings?

The top position is the Slap setting. Then follow the chart down for the rest. Start with the middle position for the EQ switch. It's a flat EQ setting, and a good place to start. The other positions add a ton of low end, which your soundman may not like for the front of the house.

The Fishman DI Compressor Mute/Tuner is awesome. We have three of these in our group. Jefro.

Yes, the Yamaha P and J pickups sound very nice. The J is a great sounding but noisy single coil. I was getting too much hum in the studio and on stage, so I changed out the J to the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, a humbucker design, and that eliminated the hum without having to add copper foil into the...
