Double Bass Portable, Clean-sounding Combo Amp?

I wish I could find a used GK MB150, but I've been looking for a few weeks now and nothing (here, Craigslist, EBay). I guess that's a testament to their popularity if no one wants to part with them. GC in Boston has moved and is having a "Grand Re-Opening" this Thursday, I'm hoping I can...

Double Bass Portable, Clean-sounding Combo Amp?

Oh, and not ridiculously expensive. I need a portable combo amp to play professional theatre gigs. I have a Realist set up on my Poellman double bass. I'd like to spend less than $700 (So no AI Contra/Coda for me). Used amps aren't a good option since I can't shell out the cash up front...

    Double Bass Instrument Insurance?

Liberty Mutual ... interesting. I also have my car insured through Liberty, and they said they'd insure my bass but only if it's "not for hire." i.e. it's not covered if I'm at a paying gig. Did you work around that?

    Double Bass Instrument Insurance?

What is your deductible with them? I saw $250 on the website and I called them because it sounded too good to be true! I haven't seen any deductibles under $500. They haven't gotten back to me yet though ... When you submitted a claim, did they have an adjuster take a look at the damage...

    Double Bass Instrument Insurance?

I've made some phone calls today and found out some interesting info if anyone is curious: Clarion Insurance (one of the bigger names) has a flat-rate deductible for basses of $1,000! Their reasoning is that basses are more likely to be damaged due to size than a violin, and the repair work...

    Double Bass Instrument Insurance?

Just curious who most people are insuring their instruments through these days? I've had my bass insured through State Farm for about 9 years now, and I just recently found out they don't cover "instruments for hire" - in other words, I was filing a claim (my first and only!) and they asked...

Double Bass Best "bang for your buck" Pick-ups and Amps?

I'm a conservatory trained classical bassist (play on a Pöllman) and I'm getting into the broadway/musical circuit here in Boston. Right now I'm borrowing a friend's Realist pick-up and amp (no idea what kind of amp it is). The next run of shows I'm doing is 30 performances so I really can't...

Double Bass Can classical bass players learn jazz?

I'm an orchestral bass player (went to a Conservatory for music performance, currently gigging in New England) and I want to start exploring some other genres - jazz, bluegrass, etc. I played jazz in middle/high school, but at that point it was all written out. I bought a technique book...
