I agree. I bought a 2002 USA sub and plays as good as a Stingray. I have heard the reason they stopped making the USA subs is because they were outselling the MM Stingray

I concur. I thought the Wahl had a very unique sound, but not something I would call the PERFECT tone. I have been listening to Geddy for about 33 years now (I'm 46) and I would have to say that for a tone that is heavier on the top end, the Ric really made the TONE statement on Moving Pictures.

My MIA sub ray plays as good as an EBMM.

What determines the use of fretless as opposed to fretted?

That's what I see. That J that Geddy Lee plays has a smaller body than other J's I've seen. When I see him play other J basses they all look bigger. The one they make the signature out of is the size I'm looking for. From what I could find out its supposedly a '72.

I'm in the market for a Jbass and wanted to know about the size if the body. I've seen some where the body is very large and heavy. I've seen smaller sized bodies like the one Geddy Lee uses. What is the difference? Has the body changed from 60s to 70s to 80s?

The thing about slap (IMO) is that it requires strings to be changed fairly regularly, that is the biggest thing for me. If I'm just an "at home" player who is playing slap about 2 hrs a day on avg, sometimes more, how fast will the brightness in those strings fade? Is 45-100 good gauge?

I have an ESP b-50 avtive pkups and I'm still using the stock strings it came with. I'm not sure on what the exact size are of those stock strings. Can anyone shed some light? Anyway, I've been playing alot of slap and it seems the g string is just sounding flat and I can't get that rich tone...

How would I know if I was looking a a later model that had a straight truss rod? Is there a particular marking on the bass or specific years I should stay away from?
