EV Speakers in Mesa Boogie Road Ready 2x15?

I do have a freshly reconed EVM 15L, removed from my old Road Ready Mesa cab with a torn cone. I did the recone myself and the end result is very nice. I have no further use for it so would be willing to sell if someone needs one.

Why did Fender introduce and discontinue the lollipop tuners?

My '69 jazz has them, along with blocks and binding. I got it new way back then - didn't think twice about the tuners 'cause "that's just the way it was". Still love my bass and hope to pass it on to my son one day.

The "I WOULD NEVER SELL THAT BASS"...and end up selling it CLUB

My '69 Jazz Bass that I have had since new. It is priceless to me, and will go to my son someday.

Most popluar amp/rig? Is there a 'standard'?

Ampeg pf-500 is a great choice for what you want to do. To me it has the Ampeg voicing with lightweight and great price. There are a host of cabs that will work - many of the 4x10 or 1x15 ampeg cabs will sound very good - I suggest you try several.

    Micro amp or SVT4-pro

I agree that the sonics of the micros are different. I have always been a tube amp guy (I own a Reeves 225) and lately I have been gigging with an Ampeg pf500, which while a bit low in power for me, does remind me a bit of a tube amp. It suits my style better than the sound of the SVT 7 Pro...

    bass speaker repair

You can recone yourself, save some money and learn something new. I have reconed speakers with great results. It's not hard, you just need to take your time and be thorough removing all old glue.

    Thinking about switching to Fenders...

If you like 5 strings the American Deluxe Jazz 5 is a great instrument - I have one and find that it has great tone and range with the preamp, and it is very well made. I also like the fact that you can play it either active or passive is a nice option.

New Gibson ES-335 bass (not Midtown!): wow!!! Any better details???

These are new models made in Memphis. I played one at NAMM but didn't have enough time with it to make a conclusion. I will be touring the Memphis shop on thursday this week while we are in Memphis for IBC. I can get a better look then.

Looking for a single coil precision bass. Need info!

I own both the 69 Telecaster and a 55 reissue CS. Both are great-Tele is the slab, 55 has the contours. 55 is lighter and a little more comfortable. The soft v neck on the 55 is nice.

    My new 1969 Fender Jazz

Congrats on your purchase. I have a sunburst 69 that I have had since new. I too find that it is a great sounding bass, and yes is a bit "mellower" than you might expect.

Blues Bass. What Makes it Good?

It depends greatly on the band. My current group is a blues trio. We never use a set list, never play any song the same way twice, improvise often. It seems to be working and we are getting great bookings in Nashville, Louisville, Indianapolis, etc. It is never boring, but I work with a...

    Hiwatt question

Just for clarity the early Hylight amps were not P2P (which means point to point) but were turret board design. The wiring and attention to detail were superb. These were very well built and turret design is very rugged (old Fenders and Marshalls also used this design, but not with the attention...

1970's the dark ages of fender??

I own a '69 jazz (had since new), a 73 and 78 Precision, and a 69 Telecaster. All are great basses. Every one of them sounds great - the 78 is probably an example of the QC you all mention - it has a gap at the neck joint, and it weighs a little over 10 lbs (ash), the finish spray on the neck is...

    Budget powered speakers?

We use JBL Eon G2's for most apps. If you shop wisely you can buy them on the cheap and they sound good, are easy to repair, parts are readily available and they are rugged. When we need low frequency support we use two PRX subs. Last year we played a small BBQ fest outside. The sound guy had...
