"Official" Mikro Bass Club Part 3

Thanks for the great info and photo, Xad! You trimmed the silk parts, correct? It looks like you cut them to a little over an inch on the E and G strings and about two inches on the A and D strings. Is that about right?

I was deciding on strings and went with the TI flats JF324. Is anyone using these on their Mikro? If so, do I need to trim the silk before I wind them on? Any other tips? Thanks!

While we’re talking about strings, I love the TI Jazz Flats on my long scale bass. My Mikro is coming today (!). I’ll give the stock strings a shot, but I prefer the feel and sound of flats. The TI’s cost $$, though. Does anyone have an opinion about Chromes vs Dunlops? I’d also be willing to...

    In defense of short-scale basses...

If you want to play REAL music, you need a REAL bass. Like the Ibanez Mikro, 28.6" scale. Mine (black one) is arriving tomorrow. :D

Anyone else think Ibanez should change their SR body?

Exactly! Much the same way the Corvette Stingray or the Eames chair has a functional style that appeals to the masses. They just happen to be perfect and sexy at the same time. ;-)

    It’s become a classic. Don’t mess with success! :D

Excellent suggestion, thank you. I did email them through Amazon. TalkBass is such a cool place. I'm coming from a big, guitar-oriented site, and while there are plenty of great people on it, there's also a lot of aggressive opinions and attitude. Bassists are a very chill group in comparison.

Thanks! I fear that if I didn't, I could be out a bunch of $$ for shipping both ways. It was sold by Alto Music and not by Amazon. I emailed them but not until after they were closed for the day.

It turns out I bought the wrong model. I searched Amazon for Mikro bass, but clicked on a listing for a 34" scale version that came up because I liked the color. I'm trying to cancel that before they ship it. :/

Thanks for the great replies and advice, everyone! I bought the soda blue one! It will be here next week. I’ll try using the stock strings to start with.

"Official" Mikro Bass Club Part 3

I'm a beginner bassist and play an Ibanez SR1300 with TI flats. It's great, but the reach to the first fret makes my arm tired, and the stretch between the first and fourth fret requires me to shift a bit. I want to do some quiet practice during breaks at my work, using my THR10C amp. I had...

Short scale GAS, would like some ideas!

Thank you so much for all that fantastic info! I have an EBMM guitar and the quality is top level. I love playing it partly because it feels so nice. And from what you wrote, I would buy the Stingray. It sounds like it hits all the right notes for me, especially at this price level. Except for...

Short scale GAS, would like some ideas!

Hank, I would love to hear your impressions of how the SBMM Stingray and Mustang PJ compare as far as tone, playability, weight, and anything else that you find distinctive. I live in L.A. but might have to buy online depending on what stores have in stock and whether they'll let me in to play...

Same question exactly! Inconnu, please post back to this thread with your impressions if you get one. If I had the bucks I’d get a G&L Fallout ($1600 = $1100 beyond my budget) just based on these tones:
