You could check out Medeski, Martin and Wood for a real interesting keys, drums and bass trio. I've only got the album they did with John Scofield on guitar too, but there should be plenty of stuff on youtube to check out.

I think you did the right thing - it's important that musicians stand up for their rights because there are far too many people willing to take advantage and screw you over.
