Thanks every body for the help and recommendation.

I bought a Fender Modern Player Short Scale Jazz Bass after playing various bass from Ibanez to G&L. I like the short scale and neck on these.

I ask about the particular model because there are in my price range at the moment. I want to use the bass just to record DI. The particular model are all price under $200. My prefer price range is under $300. Like I said I'm really a guitar player but want to record my own bass line.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, I think I am more confuse with more choice like now that I'm looking at a Jazz bass and I also see a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass '60. Hopefully I can find some to try.

Gotta says the Matt Freeman P bass look intriguing.

All the guitar store around me in NYC only stock the higher end bass and not the one I mention. Would really love to try it out before buying.
