I had a sort-of similar issue with my LTFs, except in my case it was my fat fingers accidentally fretting the G when playing the A and E. Rather than fix my lousy technique, I just raised the saddles. :)

As the OP, I’ll allow it. :) My (possibly faulty) assumption is that consistency comes from a manufacturer’s quality control in materials and process… in other words, starting with good wire and winding it the same way every time. So if a maker has their ducks in a row when making rounds...

In your experience, which flats are least likely to have the dreaded “dead E”, “twangy G”, or any other tonal weirdness when new? In other words, if you had to take a set of new flats straight from the package, string ‘em up, and immediately play a gig, which ones would you trust to sound right?

My nephew put the first ding in my #1 by dropping it during a beginning bass lesson when he was about 5. I forgave him immediately. He’s now 18… and a drummer. Haven’t forgiven him for that yet. ;)
