If your Fender amp doesn't have an active input or an input gain cut of some sort, the MFDs will prolly clip the input gain section of your amp since they have such high output. Edit: I just reread your post and that doesn't sound like it's the same problem. Sorry :D .

No, it isn't unusual, at least for most electronic components. I think it would be hard to find a large company like Ampeg that doesn't have their circuits and such made overseas.

if it's a newer 4003 then the push/pull activates a capacitor which cuts the bass frequencies for a "vintage" 4001 sound.

lol.... 1970's Japanese made Fender Precision Bass. In very good condition with only very minor wear, straight neck with no fretwear, and all original with exception of upgraded EMG Select pickups. Includes flatwound strings and original lockable Fender hardshell case, made in USA. Very nice...
