Yes the HOD is a modified ABM. I was surprised to know that Rex went with a Rootmaster as a platform for his sig amp instead of the ABM. Thus I think there is quite a difference between the two.

For some Wah action check Kill Devil Hill's Rise from the shadow. Also Pantera's By demon be driven. And around the outro of the live version of Becoming.

That's something I was thinking of. Knowing that he's into Ampeg flavor, does the Rootmaster emulate or get close enough from that kind of tone ?

Honestly, I have never tried an Ashdown before. But Geezer is the one who pulled me over. The head of doom is 4 times heavier than Rex amp. I wonder if the weight here translates into a better tone ? I hate most of the class D amps I tried including Aguilar and Phil Jones and they were light...

Was it a matter of reliability and tweakability or simply a question of tone ? I was actually expecting him to fall in love with the Head of doom and give it a custom twist.

He surely recycled through so many bass brands lately. From Spector to ESP to Warwick then Gibson and now back to Spector. Ampwise he plugged into Ampeg for the longest part of his career. He had a brief stunt with Hartke but went right after that back to Ampeg.

My exact thought ! Actually I got some glowing feedbacks from a few lucky owners who use the Head of Doom and it looks that Rex auditionned Geezer's model when in search for his Ashdown sound. So yeah if it's good enough for Geezer it will surely be good for Rex knowing how the whole Pantera...

It caught me off guard as Rex was always an Ampeg man and he used Tech 21 in conjunction with his SVTs. I know he was testdriving some unusual suspects while on the road for the recent Pantera reunion like Eich amps and Darkgkass pedals. His new Ashdown looks to be a heavily modified Rootmaster...

The title says it all ! These two heads look very interesting but I wonder if the tone they provide is suitable for someone who looks for a fat, bold, warm, with girth and dirt tone a la Newsted, Butler, Burton...I played some class D amps like Phil Jones and EBS and realized their modern tone...
