Btw, would like to ask what kind of truss rod the spirit has. Is it a double action or single action?

Bass build/bass mod - Lockdown Edition!

Completed the whole project! Took me a total of 2 months, from striping the paint, and then removing of wood. Could only do all these with the help of talkbass! Weight was reduced from 3.3kg to 2.5kg (5.5 lbs) Body thickness from 4.2cm to 3cm (1.2") Replaced the neck pickup with a massive...

Bass build/bass mod - Lockdown Edition!

after almost 3 weeks, i sprayed on about 8 coats of paint, 5 coats of base coat, with 3 clear coats. The excessive coats are due to some mistakes that I made along the way, such as orange peeling and bubbling which I had to sand down and redo again. Also made a mistake of resting the bass (5...

I've sprayed on the matte black and sanded it down to a smooth finish. My question here is would i need a clear coat over everything? Or can i just leave it as it is. I used a matte black acrylic rattle can.

The goal was to just have a single bridge pickup, so i have decided to seal up the hole. Carved out a small lip to cover it with some more basswood. Here is what it looks like before and after :)

Would you recommend using CA glue to fill the deep scratches first in combination with steaming?

So next step would be to fill up holes and to sand the surfaces before painting it. Acrylic laquer rattle cans are the only paint that is available, other than furniture poly paint that I can get from the hardware store. Which would be a better option? Was aiming for a matte black look.

I think most likely is the head piece that holds the string on the other end. The channel that holds the double ball end is longer compared to those I see on the original L2 etc. I could be wrong though, I'm basing off pictures on the Internet.

Yup! It's installed. Compared to the original stock emg selects, I could hear more finger dynamics. My amp doesn't have a tweeter, so can't say for sure about the nicer highs that other people hear from their alumitones. I plan to get an audere 4band with this, they sell a version that is...

Thanks for the advice! Right now I have my bass stringed with flatwound chromes, and the saddles are almost maxed out after intonation. It could be that the flatwounds are stiffer, and would require a little longer scale length. The bridge pickup I installed is a lace deathbucker in guitar...

    Steinberger Spirits

Hi friends, during lockdown I butchered my steinberger spirit. The amount of modifications I did probably removes me from the 'club' but feel free to take a look :) My best efforts on my first time with woodworking tools hahaha Bass build/bass mod - Lockdown Edition!

Stringed it up and added some new upgrades! Before any modifications, the guitar weighed 3.28kg (7.23 lb) Now it weighs 2.35kg (5.18 lb), a reduction of 28% Overall body thickness reduced from 4.1cm to 2.8cm (1.1") The alumitone deathbucker weighed 60g compared to the stock soapbar of 141g 3D...

Hi all, was wondering how I may do a belly cut on the body. Knives first, followed by sandpaper? Weighing between keeping the rectangular paddle board shape vs comfort of the bass.

So the past few days i have 1) sanded the back flat, which took plenty of hours to ensure everything is level. If I had the right tools it could be much faster 2) drilled some threads into the neck joint, in between the interface of the maple neck and basswood body. I then filled it up with...

Wow that's a beauty!, could you also share the front of the bass? would love to see it! and also after the drilling and chiseling, I can confirm that it is a set-neck. A close up picture just for you :))
