Ampeg V4 Overpowering Guitars in band, need advice

He threw 6L6's in there, which from what I've read are just as good as the 7027's that come stock. I have another tech lined up, unfortunately I am utterly lost inside of an amp. What is the B+ value in reference to?

Ampeg V4 Overpowering Guitars in band, need advice

Update: Was out of the country on vacation..apologies for not updating sooner. Tried out the v4 on an ampeg Isovent 2x10-1x15 and did a comparison between my 4x10. While the Isovent cab sounded better distorted, the 4x10 was still better at low volumes. At this point I'm pretty certain its not...

Hey Paul, You're totally right. A vacation out of the country has relaxed me a bit. The internet is filled with smart asses, I shouldn't forget so easily.

Fellow bass peeps- I will be going over a friends tonight with v4 and 410he to try some stuff. He has an SVT and a multitude of cabs. Will update later. As for attenuator- id rather not use one if only bc it kills tubes fast AF. If it ends up being a cab issue I might consider it. Thanks dudes

Bingo In the type of music I play, yes the bassist holds it down bc the guitars tend to soar, but at the same time the bass contributes to a lot more melody than in standard rock. I wish I had the ability to adjust gain, but its just not in the cards. @Sartori would a compressor help?

Derp. Tubes and caps are all new, its an early Ampeg V4. I play in a shoegaze/dream/loud postrock type outfit. And you're def right about that.

All- Definitely using a speaker cable and not an instrument cable. I bought it when I picked up the new amp from GC. Its nothing fancy. I'll def try another cable though just to see. I get that turning down will "Help" the situation, but doesn't solve my issue. I understand you're trying to...

Nah its def a speaker cable. Its a finished basement with sound dampening ceiling. I would say its about 30'x30' or so? I'll give the blanket deal a shot. I'd say when I dial it all to 12 o'clock it doesn't fart out as much, but still isn't great. Its definitely a difference though. I...

Hey Jimmy, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I plan on testing out a 212av and maybe a 810e over the weekend to see if it helps, although my bandmates would probably not be too pleased to see a fridge randomly show up at the practice space. Whatevs. If that doesn't solve the issue, I suppose...

I haven't tried this with a different speaker cable or with head off the cab. Will give it a shot. Def non-speakon. I've tried a ton of different EQ already, posted about 3. The biggest reason I don't think its the head is bc the tech is highly highly respected in my community and is known to...

Ampeg V4 Overpowering Guitars in band, need advice

    1. I'm going to take my head and try some other options over the weekend so that might help, if I still notice it happening, I think I'll take it to a different tech. 2. I looked at the Sansamp and possibly a vintage microtubes. That might give it some oomph. 3. Wasn't trying to be a jerk but I...

Yeah, that was one of the first things I messed with. I have it totally turned to the right at 0. BTW, do you know what the infinite level all the way to the right is?

Wow, you're right, I'm an idiot. Good catch. I was thinking about the volume sensitivity rocker. Hm. Guess I'll just have to try a different cab, and mess with the pickup height.

I have noticed my bass can be quite a bit boomy, but I figured this was just a characteristic of this particular P-Bass. Worth checking into.
