Has anyone ever used a Gibson Thunderbird in any kind of prog?

I know there was a Concert Booklet from the Tales/Relayer era stating that he owned a Thunderbird, actually a Ripper as well (never used).... I think the first use of the T-Bird was Safe (Canon Song) on Fish Out of Water. This actually has 4 different basses on it. Ricky 4 string on the first...

    API TranZformer Bass Preamp

But if I was going to do it modularly...I would have a 505DI into a 527 comp, then into a 550A EQ (make this switchable in/out)...then a line splitter....one line to FOH, the other into a 560 graphic (as cabinet EQ) then into a power amp. Looks like I need one of those old 4 slot lunchboxes. Or...

    API TranZformer Bass Preamp

Well the compressor needs to be compared to an API 525 not a 527..... The 525 itself is not the most flexible unit in the world. It also is peak detecting, not RMS like a 527.... It has a fixed attack time, and 4 release times set in a binary fashion via two pushbuttons. It has 2:1 or 20:1...

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

Yes...though....as far as I can tell, all SWR amps I have seen have similar values...but they were known to tweak a bit, here and there!!!! It should be perfectly applicable to a Baby Blue...Most of the changes I have seen are not in the AE circuit. They are coupling caps around the tube or...

According to the Tonestack sim...This is the Aural Enhancer turned all the way down!!!!

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

This screen shot is with the aural enhancer fully clockwise at 10 This is from Duncan Amps tonestack simulator....This is set up with stock AE values and a 133k treble pot assuming the voltage divider off of the treble cap. ..100kohms and 33k. Treble pot is linear, and turned to 7.5 on the...

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

Here's a screen shot of the Aural Enhancer with a proposed 100kohm resistor in place of the mid control 22k resistor. This is with the control fully counter clockwise/down. This is from Duncan Amps tonestack simulator....This is set up with stock AE values and a 133k treble pot assuming the...

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

As for some clarity on how the circuit works.... Firstly the topology.... A Fender/Alembic/Aural Enhancer tone stack is boost only treble and bass. The mid controls, to a degree the Q, and the amount of boost available. To give some more clarity... the 1000pf cap acts as a high pass filter...

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

It won't bypass it....It will change the voicing to a more Ampeg and Alembic type voicing with more low mids... I realize those are completely different circuits with the Ampeg ultra-low switch being a T-filter and the Alembic being a Fender tone stack just like the Aural Enhancer is. The thing...

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

I finally took the time to look at a SM400 schemo...... The SM400 uses .1uf coupling caps around the tube. You may want to try having the caps replaced mentioned above??? The power amp is bound to have some kind of filtering too though.

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

The coupling caps around the preamp tube should serve that purpose. I don't have the SM400 schematic handy but in my Basic Black you have .022uf seeing 470k (inverting TL072) after the first tube stage and .022uf seeing 270k (inverting TL072) after the tube second stage. Those two caps give you...

Also I forgot to add. If you must get real fancy. The 100k resistor acting as the treble control pot in the AE circuit may be able to be replaced with a 100k trimmer pot in order to adjust the amount of treble boost!!!!!!

    SWR Aural Enhancer Bypass

I just got myself a Basic Black again. I say again because I had one years ago and I had always been fond of them. Years ago I didn't know too much about electronics but now I am much sharper in those regards. Anyhow, I myself am interested in modding the aural enhancer circuit as well. Like...
