Which 4-string basses have "hook" bridges?

The .160 I'm currently using, and also typically .175 (in for example Warwick Dark Lord Set) are tapered for this reason, assuming we're talking about the same compartment.

Which 4-string basses have "hook" bridges?

Almost. Drop G actually to match the guitars, so GDGC with .160 for G0 (may test out .175, which is typically for F#, when I get a bass with better bridge but my current setup is quite a struggle to fit the .160 already, that's why I'm looking to upgrade/sidegrade)

Which 4-string basses have "hook" bridges?

Due to running low tunings with thicker strings, even those with tapered ends tend to struggle to fit through a lot of regular bridges where the entire string needs to be threaded through. So I'm looking for something where the ball end of the string is just hooked into the bridge (don't know if...

    Sire Z3 bass review

Nice review and a nice bass! Since in the EU market (Thomann), the Z3 and Ray4 are competing at pretty much the same price point (~450 EUR), from what I'm reading the Z3 sounds like a better deal unless someone just absolutely requires the exact Stingray body. What are the pickup dimensions? Is...

    Beginner tip: Record yourself!

Yeah, keeping videos in your phone can take up the space pretty quickly so you need to manage that. But unless you ever want to do something with the recordings besides seeing progress, audio/video compression is your friend. No need to keep 4K video of hundreds of practice sessions, cutting it...

    Beginner tip: Record yourself!

Not only to see progress but more importantly, it helps you find gaps in your technique. You don't need anything fancy either. If you're practicing with an amp, all you need is your phone. The front camera is more than enough. Make sure both of your hands are visible in the picture and press...

String spacing: How much difference is one mm?

I don't think 1mm is that much, unless what you play already feels almost too narrow or too wide. There, the 1mm can be a deal breaker. The narrowest bass I own is 16.5mm or 17mm (when measured by hand, the 0.5mm is hard to spot) and widest is around 19mm I think. So that's 2mm to 2.5mm...

    Fixing passive Tone buzz/noise

So I got myself a cheapo Harley Benton Stingray clone, split-coil volume, volume, tone setup. It's fine for the price but when the tone knob is fully open (getting full tone), I get a nasty electric buzz. When I roll it off / close it, the noise goes away. It also gets significantly reduced when I...

    Passive J under $700?

That I’m only looking at brand new, still being made models. Being able to grab some used Made in Mexico/America/Japan Jazz bass for under $700 on marketplace/Reverb because someone needs to get rid of it is cool and all but it’s quite time and location sensitive, that’s why I’m excluding those.

    Passive J under $700?

So far got my eyes on the Sire V5. From what I've seen/heard, it looks to be on par if not better than Fender Player series, which is also almost twice the price. Are there any other non-classifieds Js worth looking into or is the Sire the best bet?

Slap - Bounce or strike through?

Still learning it as well but so far, I'm finding strike through technique to fit me better. I also want to move on to double thumb so striking through should lay a better ground work for that. I started with bouncing but it felt way too uncontrolled and noisier, I was bouncing too high so I...

    Is this question offensive???

It's a valid question, but it already assumes you're talking to a gigging band. Someone who's only in the practice stage or even just band-building stage might feel like you're jumping way ahead. Of course, it's context dependent. If the posting didn't mention how active they are, I'd start...

BTB806MS owners - what strings do you use?

@michael_t yeah, planning on standard BEADGC. Don't have a measure on me right now but the scale is 37-34.5" and according to the official specs, it came from factory with But buying all singles sounds like quite a hassle so I've been thinking going a Superlong 5 set (such as Ernie Ball 2850)...

BTB806MS owners - what strings do you use?

With 6-string sets not being as common, especially for a multi-scale instrument, do you use one of the like 2 D'addario superlong sets that should in theory fit? Or do you buy 5-string set and a single for the high C?

Squier Announces the Antigua Finish in 2024!!!

Been thinking about grabbing a passive P just for the sake of it and I actually like the finish. Don’t know about Squiers though. Always heard that for the money, you could get a way better instrument from the likes of Cort or Sire. Also, when will mid range basses get some love in form of...
