Double Bass Bass tuner slipping or hysteresis question

So, that is the E turner with the string removed. All the original windings look well done and were installed at a very professional place several years back (ten years ago?). Some of the center screws were not tight but making them completely tight pretty much makes the tuners bind. I...

Double Bass Bass tuner slipping or hysteresis question

This is sort of what I was considering. So, I would unwind both strings, remove the plate screws and try to make the worm gear collars tighter? Take it off for sure, right?

Double Bass Bass tuner slipping or hysteresis question

My son's bass has an issue with one tuner. I'm going to try to get a good high resolution close up of the machine but basically it slips and hence is very difficult to tune. The issue is not new but a big source of frustration. Takes too long to get it right. My feeling is this is due to the...

Double Bass Loose inner lamination on Kay

Yes, exactly. The loop would then be over the top of the tailpiece where there are currently two cap nuts. Do you round over the original holes a bit toward the center for the wire rope or just let it do a sharp bend?

Double Bass Loose inner lamination on Kay

Ordering a new saddle and bridge. Would you remove the two cap nuts and sort of edge over the holes? Thanks for all the advice.

Double Bass Loose inner lamination on Kay

So, after ignoring this Kay for almost a year, I put the strings that were with it when I got it back on and the same bridge. It does "tune" and didn't just pull apart leaving it a few days. However, I have some serious problems. Some easy to fix. The bridge is badly warped. Some serious...

    Table Saw Safety

Later added a vac port and optional sides to keep the dust to a minimum. Sorry, this may have posted twice.

    Table Saw Safety

I did later add a vac port and sliding sides to hold down the dust even more than just the top. The FeatherLoc in the background is just on the fence pulled to the side and has nothing to do with this sled. The front side sliding block is for repeated cuts. That slides off the end for long...

    Old tools

General planes are not very useful for instruments but I've been collecting mostly as history but think about various spoke shaves. There are some very fun old tools out there still that only need some TLC. If you are into these, I would recommend "The Wooden Plane" by John Whelan. Here's a fav:

    Table Saw Safety

There is a lot here but I will add my two cents. Your table saw isn't your friend. It must be cared for and you must use more than care using them. One thing I don't see here is the use of quality, even home built jigs. These can be cross cut, angle cut, even rip at an angle taper jigs...

Double Bass Loose inner lamination on Kay

Yes, the one of the upper ribs, right side facing the bass. About a third of it still feels spongy. I failed to note this before reinstalling the front. I would have clamped it prior to this if I had noticed. The end near the neck sems to be good. It's as if the outer ply is no longer...

Double Bass Jake's DB stand version

The lamp is actually just "behind" the bass.
