Thank you. This was his idea, he bought the pickups and gave them to me for the build. I think they look cool but left to my own devices I would have went black.

It's no biggie. I usually measure about .5" from body to carve. It's just an aesthetic thing either way.

Between coats 400 is fine. I dry sand with abranet. Before my final top coats I use 600, also dry. When topcoats are cured I use 800 to 1000 to 1200 then buff. On lacquer same except wet sand on final cure. Sand those drips flat and make sure they aren't "milky" looking still before re-coating...

I did 6 pretty rough coats of varathane on Friday. No biggie as I'm building coats. The Testors went down smooth. After sanding with 400 on the build coats I hit it with some air to clean and a small chip appeared. The rest is obvious. I just got it all off. It peeled off like tight "Saran"...

Well I assume there would be better adhesion if it was sanded first? But you can't sand a metallic. Super frustrating. So glad it happened now and not when sold.

Here is my experience with testors extreme lacquer with Varathane Ultimate on top. I'm so glad this happened on my first round of coats. I let the Testors cure for a week and wiped down with naphtha and let that dry thoroughly. I will have to sand off and start over. I will have to move forward...

Quick FYI. Do not use denatured alcohol to wipe down your Testors finish, it is a solvent to it and makes it soft. Use Naphtha. Doing lots of reading on spray finish colors, Testors Extreme Lacquer has the lowest Acetone content that I can find, this makes it not too hot of a color finish. So cool.
