    Pre-amp: worth the extra money?

Wow, I've been offline for a while. This thread really picked up. Lots of good advice, thanks guys. I think I'm leaning towards the Aguilar p/j setup for now. I might add an OBP down the road. All of my current basses are active. It's been years since I've run a passive set up. Might be...

    Pre-amp: worth the extra money?

Thanks for the input guys. I'm in the process if building a new 4 string, and figured if like to put some sweet electronics in it. I was leaning towards the pope pre with EMG's strictly for the no solder purpose. If you guys think the pre amp is a waste, then I'll definitely take the advice...

    Pre-amp: worth the extra money?

I am looking at installing new p/j set up in a bass build, and was looking at including the mike pope pre amp. At an additional $300, just looking for input on whether it's worth the investment. Another option is j pickups with an Aguilar pre. Any thoughts?

    New pups for bass build

I'm looking for some advice for pick ups on my first build. I was leaning towards the EMG P/J configuration with the Mike Pope preamp (V Wooten style). Is the pre amp worth the $? What about the P/j combination? I play anything from rock, jazz, and funk.

    Weak neck?

It is going to be a 4 string 34" scale build. Maple and mahogany neck with mahogany wings and flame maple top.

    Weak neck?

Thanks for the insight everyone. I ordered some carbon fiber rods just incase. Once I figure how to post pictures, I'll start a build thread.

    Weak neck?

It's hard maple with 2- 5/16 rips of mohagony between the maple. As I put the body end on the ground and put a little pressure on the neck, it has significant flex. It's going to be for a 4 string. Is this common after removing so much material? Without the fretboard on I'm at 13/16" thickness.

    Weak neck?

I've started my first build recently, and after starting to shape the neck, it seems too "springy". It's a 5 piece laminated maple and mahogany neck through. I wasn't planning on adding carbon fiber rods, but I'm worried that the truss rod won't be stiff enough. Any thoughts?
