    Sub-Short Scale Talk

I found this little guy for $5 at a flea market. Still working on it, as it was literally coming apart. Needs tailpiece adjusted, but here's a mockup. Measured the scale at 25.5-ish. It's definitely fun to play, but it was in really bad shape when I bought it, and I still need to do some...

What artist/song/album started it all for you as a musician?

Got pushed to try band in junior high school, and got pretty good on trombone. But seeing a local garage band playing "Gimme Three Steps" onstage at my school when I was about 13 really made me want to get up there and play bass in my own band. It took hearing Road To Ruin by the Ramones for...

Who influenced you to play bass?

As I have progressed as a bass player, I realize that GS is an underrated player. He is very good.

Who influenced you to play bass?

The bassist that inspired me enough to say "I can do that" was Dee Dee Ramone. The bass players who inspired me to learn to play were Bruce Thomas, McCartney, and Tom Petersson.

Your best cheap gig bass...and why.

Early 2000s Sunlite Turbo GSB-100. $123 from Goodwill. I wanted a P bass to go along with my J, and didn't want to lay out a lot of $. Alder body with maple neck. I upgraded the pup, nut, pickguard and bridge, and totally rewired it, so I've got about $220 into it. Love it because it does...

How would you grade this bass?

I would grade that bass as Good. Maybe Good+. I think you're within your right to ask for a refund, because it sure isn't Excellent.

Essex (SX) Bass Club - Part 15

Don't remember if I've posted my axe, but here it is, and in my avatar. 2011 Ursa 2 MN PRO 3TS. SX Ursa 2 MN PRO 3TS - RondoMusic.com Don't think Rondo is carrying these at the moment either. Great bass. Had to swap the PG due to the layers becoming delaminated, but I like the black better...

Whats the Easiest Gig You've Ever Played?

25 minute set. $1 a head. Entire door. 380 people. EDIT: I think the set list was Blitzkrieg Bop, Satisfaction, Let's Dance, Shot Down In Flames, and maybe You Really Got Me, with a crummy original thrown in. Early 80's HS gym gig.

    Famous Bands with Good Singers!

He's probably lost half a step or so, but he really can do it all vocally. Have fun!

    My Essex Experience

I guess my take on the whole thing is that I really can't justify spending $350+ for a bass to hack around on if I can get a ~$200 bass to do the same job. I'm not particularly tooting SX's horn, but it's just fairly incredible that you can get a decent instrument for ~$110-$190 bucks with...

Any bassists out there from Grand Prairie?

Fort Worth by way of Denton here. Hot and dry right now. Grand Prairie is getting so big you wouldn't recognize it.

    My Essex Experience

Here's a (crappy) photo I posted last week in the "show your bass" thread. Sorry for the "quality". Will try to post better pics. I'd like to weigh in on some comments in the thread, and will check back to do it soon.

    Famous Bands with Good Singers!

Robin Zander of Cheap Trick is for my money, the best singer in rock. Others I thought were/are good: Lou Gramm Rob Halford Steve Walsh Ann Wilson Paul Rodgers
