Testing Compressors: Cali, Smoothie, Empress, Diamond, Keeley, FEA, Darkglass, Doc Lloyd, Lusithand & more

I need another compressor about like I need another hole in the head, but the sale price on that Yuna with DITOS is just too tempting. I been eyeing an Accountant, Ego 76, or the Warm Audio P76 as my next purchase, but Becos makes great stuff. Also kinda tempted by that new Walrus High Point. So...

    GLP-1 shot, yes or no

Registered dietitian here. In my previous clinical position, I had a list of almost 50 patients I was monitoring/educating monthly for the various shots and pills. IMO, the shots are great for a patient who is in a physical crisis, e.g. they need to lose A LOT of weight safely and quickly to...

    Playing upright style

Pretty neat. Can you explain this setup? I wouldn't mind trying that myself.

    Budget amp advice

If you stumble across a used Quilter Bass Block, those are phenomenal small amps that are capable and sound fantastic. Pair it with a used 2x10 or 1x15 and you would be set for most gigs. If it were me doing it all over again, I would save up and get something that I know will perform. Buy once...

    dB meters at clubs?

This sums up my experience too. About 20 years ago I was in a jazz group that played Jazz Manouche and standards, but also dinner music. We marketed ourselves as wallpaper for dinner parties, art galleries showings, and other various events. We stayed busy enough I was able to quit my other job...

Multi-band compression: We can, but should we?

This is how I use it as well. Multi-band isn't at the top of my list for every gig but it really makes the fretless with upright IRs sound more natural when it's all blended together.

What movie quotes are part of your everyday vernacular?

"Wha da tey, mah damie. Gon sign yo pitty in on da runny kind." - Pootie Tang These are often said at band practice: "We don't need no ******* practice, Randy!" 'HEY! I told you 3 times already! The law's on my side. I play cards with J.D. Shellnut...the chief of po-lice. So kiss my *** ya...

HX stomp + what bass DI?

I built my main board around the HX Stomp. The Stomp is good enough to run straight into the board and get a fantastic sound, but I wanted to have a transformer balanced DI on the output to add some harmonic weight to the signal. I chose the Lighting Boy TI Box cause it has a custom transformer...

Hey UPS, 'dimensional weight' is not a thing.

If I remember correctly, dimensional weights only apply to packages sent to Cthulhu. But logistics tend to blur in the void, so I'd look that up just to be sure.

    Castle Rat live on KEXP

So this is where Conan the Barbarian would've landed had he formed a band with the wizards, thieves, and sword wielding concubines. Nice.

    Question on in-ear monitors

^^^^^ This. Never had an issue as long as the clip stays put.

    Modeler -> DI, why?

I use a DI but my board is a little bass ackwards from what you're describing. I have comp > EQ > transformer > Stomp > dedicated transformer balanced DI. I like having the comp and eq at a glance and easy to adjust without menu fishing. I've found that the dedicated DI also cuts down on the...
