Microphonic Nordstrand Big Singles - how to fix???

I'm all shielded up - I learned to do that decades ago - particularly with Passive instruments. 60 Cy hum is no fun!

Microphonic Nordstrand Big Singles - how to fix???

My mistake - the email I got was from the folks at Bestbass Gear - I just double checked. My mistake - apologies. I will take a look at the grounding & whatnot. That really was what I was hoping to hear, honestly. I do love how they sound, fwiw (outside of the noise of my fingers!)

Microphonic Nordstrand Big Singles - how to fix???

I had thought of that - I just remounted them - very tight - zero wiggle . Nordstrand just got back to me and said "yeah, that's the way those are - you need wax potted pickups" - which kind ticks me off... I may try wax potting them myself!

Microphonic Nordstrand Big Singles - how to fix???

I have two big singles in my bass, along with a J. East preamp - they sound fantastic but they are highly microphonic - any touch of the pickup cover can be heard in the amp. I've never seen this before on higher-end pickups - any suggestions?

    Tecamp Service?

My trusty Puma 900 died yesterday at a band audition (very poor timing). Fuses good, just no power to the unit at all. I gather that Tecamp is out of business - does anyone service these things or am I just hosed? thanks

How to tell if a Fender body is MIA or MIM

Oh - and is there a way to determine the year from any of the stamps?

How to tell if a Fender body is MIA or MIM

Excellent to know. Thanks. Next question: Warmoth indicates that there is a fit difference between a "Deluxe" and "Standard" MIA 5 string - okay fine... any idea what I should be looking for? My guess is this is a standard, given that there is only 3 controls on the top plate... but I could be...

How to tell if a Fender body is MIA or MIM

$275 - yeah, kinda low for an MIA but it was listed as American made... it has string-thru body and is *pretty* clean (a few dings). I want to get a warmoth fretless neck for it (I'm already happy with my fretted 5 - a Carvin SB5001)

How to tell if a Fender body is MIA or MIM

I just bought a body on ebay for a project - it's a 5 string J - it was advertised as MIA - was just wonder if there's a simple way to tell for sure. See pix - yes, the shielding isn't factor - that I know. Otherwise... what do you think? thanks

Do you gig with a backup amp?

Never. I used to, when amps were flat-out unreliable, but now? No need.

screw-on (bolt-on) neck vs. neck-through, can you hear the difference?

Here's where I really feel the difference: In the WALLET! Actually, my fav bass sound is a set neck. I always have felt that a screw-on neck gets a bit more punch than neck-thru, but neck thru gets a bit more overall tone... set neck is the best of both. My next bass dream is a Fodera set-neck...

Been a bit out of the loop for a bit - Amp comparison question

I have been running a Tecamp Puma 900 into my Bergantino cabs - happy with it (lots of power in a little package) - is there anything new that outshines the Puma 900? Just soliciting opinions. Thanks!

    beginner here

    1) Find a good instructor - not just the "guy at the music store" - but a guy with some credentials. 2) Learn theory. Don't skip that. 3) Learn to sight-read. It's not easy, but it's important. 4) HAVE FUN
