This amazing active DI has an incredible-sounding pre, and killer distortion. Looking for a fast sell, this needs to go this week.

SOLD 2007 Fender American Standard Precision

I bought this beautiful sunburst P several weeks ago from a great TBer. I've had a professional set-up, cleaning, and restring done on it, and it plays like a dream! It is the current model, and it has that classic P sound. My main player is an American Special, and I'm just so use to that...

Thin sounding Fender P-Bass Highway One

Never knew about the difference in pups - that makes a lot of sense, and probably contributes quite a bit to the tone difference if lowstrung has the 61276/7 set. Sorry I misunderstood what you were saying, Turock - I took down my misleading post.

    Oooh, okay - thanks tjh.

Thin sounding Fender P-Bass Highway One

I think Highway 1s were made with traditional electronics, then Fender updated the series with a nitro finish and Greasebucket electronics, among other upgrades, and dubbed it the Highway One.

Thin sounding Fender P-Bass Highway One

The Highway One, along with the American Special, used Fender's Greasebucket tone circuit, which was not used on the Highway 1, nor most other Fender instruments. This would be the main reason for the tone difference you describe.

    Friday Weekly '88-93 G&L L5000 Roundup

Finally sold the '88 sunburst for $900 - talking with the buyer, I realized I wasn't describing the truss rod nut situation very well: it was stripped where you put the hex wrench, not on the threaded portion. It took $8 and 8 minutes to fix all-in-all. Anyway, thanks for giving me a better idea...

    Favorite Fender Bass Series

American Special! I love the Greasebucket tone circuit and the modern C-shape neck with a satin finish. The Strat player in my band says he prefers the way my bass plays to his guitar, haha. The tone circuit sounds a lot more crisp and clear to me when A/B'ed with a Standard's circuit, even with...

    Friday Weekly '88-93 G&L L5000 Roundup

There are two different ads in the Asheville CL - one is mine. I had it up for sale, then took it down to get it repaired after talking with Iriegnome. It'll go to the shop this week, so I posted it in the meantime. I gather the value is lower than I'm asking. Shoot me a PM if you have any...

Just tried a $300 Ibanez 6-String, and was BLOWN AWAY. Any danger here?

I was sitting in Guitar Center for two hours straight playing an Ibanez GSR206B. It's pretty cheap-looking in that the wood isn't elaborately finished and the hardware isn't bright chrome, but it's incredibly light and has a smooth, punchy, sexy sound. I have a couple high-dollar basses, and I...

Just bought a beautiful 1988 G&L L5000. Anyone else have experience with this rare 5-string?

For the record, after some thought I've decided I have a greater need for a P/J-style bass (thinking about a new SB-2?), so I'll be selling the L5000. I wish I could have both, but I can't swing it...

Just bought a beautiful 1988 G&L L5000. Anyone else have experience with this rare 5-string?

Maybe people have a new appreciation for them now? Haha. I'm sure the wood settles and develops over time, but I'm not sure how big of a difference that ends up making on electric instruments. I play vintage acoustic guitars often, and the older they are the better! Just played a 1937 Martin...

Thanks for the setup tip! This is super relevant - I'm having it setup tomorrow by a tech (friend). I'll make him aware of the L5000's tendencies.
