A plain ole MIM Fender Jazz in capable hands

hmm. video started up in like 2 seconds for me.... anyway, i prefer the album version but i have to hand it to Me'Shell for doing the rave-up arrangement for live performance.... a lot of drumming and bass playing there (probably a little too much busyiness) with that sweet great vocal hook...

    Mesa Scout Cab

I got the Mesa Scout 15" extension cab used on talkbass for a reasonable price. It's not so heavy in weight--but so heavy in sound! My whole house shakes when it and the Walkabout are on level 2....

I can't truss it: tuning, inton. prob

Thanks for this theory. It really makes sense in terms of all fretted notes being slightly out of tune. My local guitar store wants to sell me a bone nut that they'll cut to order. Very pricey, though, and bad attitude too. A friend has recommended an excellent luthier--for my bargain (sic)...

I can't truss it: tuning, inton. prob

Re Query: To string it upside down, I removed the nut and reversed it (so that the biggest slot is still there for the low E). I wonder if this reversal could impact the bridge or neck as well--and tuning via that. I have noticed that the low E is not fully in the saddle slot. But the other...

I can't truss it: tuning, inton. prob

Thanks, man. The strings are medium flatwounds, newish. Yes, I've loosened and tightened saddles. The strobe tuner clarifies the sharpness for any fretting note (where open strings are IN TUNE), but the ear can hear too. Stylistically, this makes me want to bend and smear most notes. I wonder...

I can't truss it: tuning, inton. prob

Hey hey, So I have a newbie question. I have a new (to me) bass that I can't intonate well at all. It's a Fender Squire Precision. With my strobe tuner, I can get the open strings in tune. But everything is sharp at the 12th fret. In fact, it's a little sharp at 3rd fret even. So I...

SOLD FS: '67 AMPEG B-15N MINT!

Love Love LOVE ThiS Amp. And I'm near Detroit. BUT just bought a Mesa Walkabout head and a 15" extension cab--which my wife hasn't discovered in basement yet.... Someone will be really lucky to have this. Oh the growl and personality of that sweet old Ampeg.

Advice on picking boomy, warm combo?

Well, I bought an amp and cabinet as a substitute for a combo. Did this for cost savings above all, and the desire for a 15" cabinet, however irrational that may seem. I feel in love with an amp, feel in love and love completely. It was the Mesa Walkabout amp head, to which I added the Mesa...

Advice on picking boomy, warm combo?

Thanks for the demythologization. That's really helpful, as always. Perhaps space-wise, the same small cab could hold 2 10" speakers and push the low end air wanted on a par with a strong 12" or 15" speaker. Unfortunately in these days of internet used sales and GC store hegemony, those...

Advice on picking boomy, warm combo?

Keep the suggestions rolling in, please. I tried the Mesa Walkabout (new at guitar central) and omigod was it sweeeet. Huge sound and precision plus sexy warmth plus sonic boom. And small. And that James Bond detachable amp head? Amazing.... Truly left the Trace Elliot, Ampeg combos, and GK...

Advice on picking boomy, warm combo?

Cool discussion. Some suggestions here are terrific--re. DI, Mesa Walkabout, and more. I fear that this discussion wants to push me to crossing the $750 price threshold. However, perhaps like some other readers, I must maintain (as a pre-emptive measure) said threshold to accomodate Wife...

Advice on picking boomy, warm combo?

What a thoughtful set of suggestions! I do think I need 200 watts or so from a combo, as I can't expend PA miking: in this case, size matters. I'm wondering if there's some no-name or diamond in the rough that the insiders know about that does the ampeg/fender/mesa/etc warmth plus clarity at...
