    Finger Dexterity

I play guitar as well as bass... All the issues you describe with your fingers are so common, to not hear that would be an exception. Keep practicing scales.. All 3 note per string guitar scales and most 3 note per string bass strings work all four fingers. Chromatic exercises, which as...

Your approach/advise to Focus in the Information Age.

Definitely agree with that one. Sounds like u got your stuff together, we all need some focus, but theres nothing wrong with working on a few things at a time as well. For me, my weakest points are reading, walking, and soloing over changes, so thats what I work on the most. Luckily for me I...

Your approach/advise to Focus in the Information Age.

In addition to what Ant has said, and not to be a jerk, but those who REALLY want to get good, and REALLY want to learn will do so. Regardless of access to information or any other outside factors.. Having a teacher helps the vast majority of people (I know it has for me and my students) but I...

Saw Voctor Wooten live for the first time last night.

Seeing Victor in concert is always great. In the last couple of years I have seen him perform many many times (at his camps, with Jd Blair, with Victor Wooten Band, Flecktones, SMV) and he never fails to inspire me.

    Improve My Playing

Transcribing is 1 way to improve, but there are several others. Work on your rhythm. You write catchy riffs, but are they in time? \Can you play them in different keys? Take your time and learn some theory and find out why they are catchy. Are they notes from a chord? from a scale? Analyze...

Music Theory: Does it require a lot of smarts?

I think having a good teacher help can be really helpful. Sometimes if you don't know where to start it can be overwhelming.

    Why cant we all read?

I taught myself how to read after I had been playing about 13 years. I have found it has given me alot of opportunities. I think anybody who wants to make playing a full-time profession either needs to be able to read, or hit the lottery with a band that "makes it." As a hobbyist or weekend...

Relearn All Scales & Patterns For BEAD ?

My advice would be to look for a bass teacher.. Eventually his knowledge is going to run out., and although he will have some information and accountability to impart as a teacher, he will have no tried and true methods. IMo.

Relearn All Scales & Patterns For BEAD ?

For a holistic musical understanding of the scale this is a good idea. For instance if you are going to be playing other instruments, this is a very useful approach. But the bass is a pattern based instrument, like a grid. The most efficiant way to learn the scales is pattern (fret spacing)...
