I want a BIG HONKIN' tube head

I run a MESA Bass 400 circa @ 1983 through a GK MB 115 cab and have zero problem rattling the drummers snare with every note. I know, sacrilege running another brand cab, but what's a brother to do? Sounds great! 6 6L6's, I am figuring @ 180 watts? I have run pre-Magnavox SVT heads and they...

Are old Class AB amps even worth their salt anymore?

I hope my Bass 400 outlasts me. Class D is a cool concept and all, but it isn't as though most of us couldn't use the minor amount of exercise a lead sled provides.

Tube watts vs Solid State watts

That is recycled from another thread. It could be used almost daily around here.

Tube watts vs Solid State watts

My guitar player runs 22 watts, I run 180 watts, both all tube. Works pretty well. I would need way more wattage if I was running solid state......

Favorite Mesa Boogie Tube Bass Amps

I am so interested to see what all of this talk produces. I voted Bass 400 and mine is loaded with 6L6's and I love the tone, as does everyone who hears it. So getting back to the question of tube sound it has to be 6L6's. A case can clearly be made that 6L6 tubes were in most of Mesas amps that...

Favorite Mesa Boogie Tube Bass Amps

Mesa/Boogie Bass 400. I play one now equipped with 6L6's. Great tone stack. One of the most tweakable bass heads ever. Perfect amount of power. If Mesa makes a re-issue I would love a new one! 400 > 400+

    PEAVEY Minimega/MESA subway D800+

Neither of these amps have toobs and if you used them as paperweights they would be ineffective. That being said I have a special place in my heart for Mesa.

Aren't we getting somewhat "soft" ?

Oh yea? What is an Ampeg fridges volume in parsecs square?

The answer is yes. I concur.

Why is my 100 watt tube amp louder than my 350 watt solid state amp?

Remember when that non-musician came up after a show and asked how many watts your rig is running? Never happened. You might get a "you guys were loud" but that's it. Hopefully you get a "your bass sounded great". Ears are miles more important than watts. Perceived loud IS actual loud.

    ported or sealed

To move air you want a ported enclosure with an f3 number @ 40 hz or lower.
