Blown away by the bass tone

The first bass that really caught my ear aside from Henry Mancini's Pink Panther was Uriah Heep Sweet Lorraine. By the late great Gary Thian

Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

I have played Jazz basses not necessarily fenders but Jazz basses none the less for quite some time but noticed the bass players that really got my attention were playing P basses. So I got an American Original with a 63 style neck. It is more difficult to play being 1 3/4" at the nut but wow...

NEW MESA TT 800 AMP. OH. MY. GOD.

I have an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500. It has 6 knobs. That thing looks like way too much work to me trying to dial in a tone. I got rid of my GK head for that very reason. In my world less is more.

If you couldn't play Bass anymore......

Xylophone! That instrument just blows my mind. And think of all of the cool Zappa tunes you could play!

how has your taste in basses changed?

Huh! Funny you ask, I started out with a 1976 P Bass I bought new (actually my first bass was a musicmaster but I'm not counting that one) and Just recently got an American Original P Bass. Essentially a 63 reissue with a 9 1/2" radius neck and taller frets. I did the Jazz bass thing for quite a...

Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

I am more offended by the question! Bass is the sexiest instrument in the band. Anyone that would pose that question in such a condescending way is probably a pretentious ass of a guitar player.

Why did you quit a band?

Usually because musicians are hard to get along with. To many ego's involved. But the last band I was in the only two consistent members were the guitarist/front man and myself. But we're both family men and having wives and children and day jobs we hung it up after several years.

If you could only play one bass brand forever

P bass, It seems as much as I like Jazz bass tone it's always P basses that make me stop listen and drool a little bit. Something about the thickness and just straight forward tone of a P bass.

What is the Bassline that inspired you to pick up the bass?

For me it was very early on when I first heard the theme from Pink Panther but after that it was Gary Thain with Uriah Heep, Sweet Lorriane.
