    G&L Club Part 7

Thanks for the replies on the prortuding pole pieces on the "JB" Jazz Bass-like pickups. With the sharp edges, I thought they might be missing a shim or something. They sound great. Thank you for the answers

    G&L Club Part 7

Does anyone here have a JB bass where the pole pieces stick out from the Jazz Bass Pickup covers? I wonder if there is a plastic shim missing from the pickup cover to the pickup bobbin. Haven't seen a picture of a JB that has pole pieces sticking out yet. I don't have a quick way of taking a...

Trying to find a low tension but old school sounding flat

GHS precision flats if you want to sound like Jamerson immediately. They aren’t marketed as low-tension but they more flexible than normal flats

    warmouth wenge necks - experiences/opinions?

My Warmoth all-Wenge neck weighs 3 pounds. I recommend that you attach the wenge neck to a mid-to-heavy body. There's a reason to why Warwick's headstocks are so small. If you need a lighter weight neck, get a wenge fretboard on a maple neck. Either way, the all wenge neck sound great.

    Calculating Neck Shim Angle

The .25 deg shim from Stewmac changed the neck angle significantly. I don't recommend buying any steeper than that.

Do you mostly play passive or active basses?

I play passive because I'm not gigging. When I was gigging, I preferred Active.

    Sire U5 headstock mod

I like it. I think all short-scale 4s should have 2+2 or 3+1 headstocks. Short-scales tend to look more like guitars.

What if MTV Never Existed? (Mary Spender video)

MTV added the visuals aspect to music. Musicians now need to be pretty people. However, MTV hasn't existed for the majority of the people on this forum so I don't what their current contribution is to music. It seems like in EDM music, the performers looks are not important or known.

What are the most taut bass strings you have used?

    GHS Boomers are stiff strings

Help! Is this really long scale?

The string spacing on that nut looks weird. Make sure the instrument is not going to need a new nut. It might be the angle of the picture. Ignore this post if replacing a nut is not a dealbreaker.

I want to get the flea sound

GHS Boomer strings. They have high tension which gives the tone the strong attack.

What’re You Guys Putting Under Your Pickups?

I used the foam that is a part of the packaging for the EMG GZR pickups. I've also used the pickup foam that best bass gear provides. I bought something else and needed pickup foam anyways so I got it. Both foams have worked well.

    Upgrading a 90’s Era P Bass

OP: Play a P-bass that has a QP pickup to see if you like it. I owned a Nate Mendel P-bass because I liked Foo Fighters. I couldn't handle the midrange from the QP pickup. You may think differently.
