Need some feedback on a decision

I ADORE my Cort/Elrick NJS5. It’s my first-choice for a lot of work, and backup to my main $ bass. For a real top tier axe, Maruszczyk should be on your list. A used Elwood can be had for a very nice cost.

Just when you thought you'd seen it all...relic stickers!

I’m going to buy a set and start putting them on other people’s basses at rehearsal and jams.

Awful set list is better than not playing at all

Dooooooo eeeeeet… that isn’t gonna be the whole set forever, and what other people said. Ask yourself this: if you don’t take this opportunity to get back out in the music scene, are you going to actively pursue other gigs or form your own band? Eve if the answer is “maybe!” then using this as...

    What pickups for rock bass.

@crazycloud , I believe my erudite and sophisticated humor is lost on you. (I think I’m funny, it’s a problem). My friend, I was trying to be funny, not scathing in any way, when I said that I was surprised there hadn’t been any pickup suggestions yet, nor any discussion of how one brand is...

    What pickups for rock bass.

Meh… he said soapbars, they’re all the same. He can mash some epoxy in there ‘round ‘em sos they don’t go nowheres. Or git a hammer and a flathead and carve ‘em up right. That’s easy stuff, shooot.

What cab for 200 watt tube amp.

Based on what you’ve said, I would find the best 2x12 you can for the budget. If under a grand, likely used. That’s okay. (Just don’t go super OLD and used. I prefer 12’s, that’s me. Perhaps take your head and bass to a guitar store and see if they’ll allow you to run your head thru some cabs...

    What pickups for rock bass.

Wow. Not a single pickup suggestion so far… I thought we’d be in a Bartolini sucks/rocks situation by now! A couple thoughts and a couple of things that work for me: I have a question: why no active preamp on the bass? Why the preference for passives? If it’s purely for the ease of not changing...

Do you think your influences come through in your playing?

No. I have always assumed that I would, at some point, begin to hear the bassists I love come out in my playing. But I don’t. I have always just assumed that’s because I don’t practice enough, or concentrate on particular artists enough. But as the years have passed and I find myself receiving...

Number One vs Bass Rotation—which is you?

I have a #1 and a backup… the backup makes the gig if I’m playing somewhere - due to weather or security - that I don’t want to bring my #1.

One switch to rule the two of them... aka gettimg tired of even a minimal pedal dance

Okay, cut off your pony tail, that removes one element from the problem you described. Stop playing with a strap, there’s a second one knocked out. You’ll need to sit down since you don’t play with a strap (weirdo) but you want to keep a small footprint on stage, so you’ll need to glue a seat...

    Speaker/Cab 15inch 100watt 4 ohm

I’m sorry, I just don’t agree… in some gigging situations it would suffice, and perhaps be lovely. But a 100 watt solid state amp isn’t going to handle a rock band with two guitars and a drummer with anything but the softest of hands. I could be wrong, but it hasn’t been my experience that I...

    Speaker/Cab 15inch 100watt 4 ohm

Repeating the question: Why the Fender?? There are ~150 bass heads on reverb for <=$250, that have more power and features. A few SWR’s, Hartke’s, TCE’s, Warwick’s, etc etc. A solid state 100 watt amp is not going to get you out of the bedroom.
