I don't think the article mentions the top of the bass. The bracing is for the back. The top is done differently with bass bar and soundpost, and out of the scope of my article.

Rake - i might have just accidentally coined a luthier term ... i use it to describe the front/back angle of the neck. Projection, for me, describes a point on the bridge extended out from the fingerboard surface.

30-40mm but, that is not a diy job. you have to take into account the straightness L-R, the height of the heel which sets the string length, and the forward/back rake which determines the height of the bridge as well. And get a perfect wobble-free fit. You have no fingerboard attached. So...

even a perfectly fitted sound post wont prevent a sound post crack if the bass takes a direct hit. What you see in old Basses is an inlaid patch to repair such a crack. It's very common. Usually the grain is offset by a few degrees so that the repair wood prevent the correct from opening...
