    G&L Club Part 3

Thanks for the trussrod tip; I'll give that a try. You definitely lose something with the bridge pickup that far from the bridge when it's soloed, but when both are all the way up it's pretty special. They're not in the usual sweet spots, but they work really well together.

    G&L Club Part 3

Here are my G&L babies. On the left is an '82 SB-2 with the neck off an '83. I have the original neck, but it has fallen victim to the dreaded maxed-out-truss-rod-with-stripped-nut syndrome. Ironically, this neck shows much more wear, but at least has a good truss rod. In the middle is...

Double Bass Buy a local Cremona or hold out for better?

Bob's shop did a restoration on my bass and I couldn't be happier. Late getting to this thread, but I would suggest you go to Bob's before buying, if only because he has quite a few to choose from and play. He or Gael (if Gael's still there--he's planning to move to SF and start a shop) will...

Double Bass Stripping Paint off a Kay

For now I think I will leave it as is, but may try to add some pinstripes to it. Thanks for the info and input, all!

Double Bass Stripping Paint off a Kay

Another issue--there are some hairline cracks on the back right at the soundpost spot. There is no buzzing or rattling; I am wondering if this is problem or the beginning of one, and what's the best way to nip it in the bud if necessary.

Double Bass Stripping Paint off a Kay

Thanks, Jay and Molly; I hadn't really thought about it that way. I don't think it looks terrible, and it's mellowed to kind of a dark gold, but it's definitely a repaint job--the original pinstriping is visible through the paint around the heel, and even the tuners were painted over. I do...

Double Bass Stripping Paint off a Kay

Thanks for the info and for pointing me to MollyKay; that thread didn't come up in my site search. Wrong settings, I suppose.

Double Bass Stripping Paint off a Kay

I recently got a 1939 Kay that was painted gold a long time ago. The paint is fairly thin, and the bass doesn't look terrible, but I would like at least to explore stripping it. First (only, really) priority is not to damage the instrument. What should I use to strip it and what is...
