I put down a deposit on a order for a Blackburst w/body binding + maple L2500 today! Man, I'm not sure if my nerves can stand the wait. Haven't seen any G&L basses in that colour combo before, so I'm not entirely sure how it's going to look, but I bet it's going to be purdy!

I'm still aching to hear an L-2500 with the K mod. I think it's a good idea, but I'm not ready to hack into my bass to make the mod until I hear it.

Here are my G&L babies. On the left is an '82 SB-2 with the neck off an '83. I have the original neck, but it has fallen victim to the dreaded maxed-out-truss-rod-with-stripped-nut syndrome. Ironically, this neck shows much more wear, but at least has a good truss rod.
In the middle is my L1000 dated from the summer of 1980. Sadly, it has a hex-head pole-piece pickup, but with the La Bella flats that are on it getting thicker and thumpier with every passing week, it's more of a player than a collector. Turn the treble all the way down and the bass all the way up and you feel it as much as hear it. Hopefully it will still have these same strings on it ten years from now. Mahogany, ebony, flats=Mmmmmmmmm...
On the right is a 90-something Climax with some modifications. The second MFD is new, as are the electronics, which are a Jazz-like V/V/T. The only operable switch is the coil splitter. I may perhaps someday restore the PTB with stacked volume controls in place of the pickup selector, but I don't miss the active electronics. I have owned several L2000s from different eras and just never dug the G&L preamp. For me, the MFDs don't need that much help.

For your out of commission neck:
if it's the bullet that's stripped, and not the trussrod, this is completely fix-able.
Slide 4-5 washers down the trussrod, get a new bullet, and you're good.
What happens is, the wood in the trussrod route compresses, and then you've got trussrod with no threads hanging out into the route in the neck. You use the washers to take that space back up, and bingo, you're back to being able to effectively adjust the neck again.

You definitely lose something with the bridge pickup that far from the bridge when it's soloed, but when both are all the way up it's pretty special. They're not in the usual sweet spots, but they work really well together.

I think my question got lost in the mix somewhere. What year did they go to 6 bolt neck and when did they quit using the chrome boomerang control cover?

They quit the chrome cover in 85 or 86 IIRC, though I've hardly owned any that new
