This is sort of a G&L question and sorry if it goes afield a bit, but I want to connect Bartolini 4 wire [+red/-green/+black/-white/shield] MM4CBC humbuckers to a current L-2000 harness. (I know, I know - I too love MFD's but want to compare) G&L pu wires are different colors; [yellow/green/black/white] May be a stupid question, but is it a matter of yellow=red with all else the same? Thanks

I can not help you with the wire colors but I installed a Bartolini Preamp and Pickups in my L-250. I just could not get along with the stock electronics. Maybe I could had mine been a fretted bass but being fretless something had to change.

The Hipshots look to have either blocks attached to a flat baseplate or a diecast baseplate. Difficult to tell from a photo, and the website is no help there.

The hipshots bases are one piece, and the there's an allen screw for tension adjustment you can see in Chef's pic. Nice tuners but I like the feel of the Schallers more.

The one thing the hipshots offer is a finer grade if adjustment via finer gearing (compared to the coarser gears).
fwiw, I prefer the schallers to, though I couldn't really tell you why.

All my basses have either the old schaller style (old fender and G&L), or, hipshot ultralights (reverend, alleva, valenti, nord, sadowsky).
The ultralights also seem to have finer tuning than the schallers, but I seem to be able to keep all my basses in tune pretty well

Well FWIW both my G&L's L2K and L-2500 have the stamped G&L tuners but I would assume both the Schaller and Hipshot offer aluminum tapered string posts?

That I don't know but will again answer:
have a look at their respective websites

To me, the tapered post thing isn't all that important. Don't trim your strings, and wind them down as low on the post as you can and they won't climb the post and rattle in the nut.

No. The tapered aluminum posts are OEM's for G&L. I just checked both Hipshot's and Schaller's websites, and only the straight steel posts are shown.

I would expect to see a little more red on a 3 tone burst, but maybe it is more apparent in person. Awesome finish and awesome bass anyway.
