Edi for momentary brain fart. The JB-2 is a really well executed Jazz bass, excellent production quality and spot on Jazz tone.


Values from what I have seen are 900-1100 depending on options and condition.

The pearl finish no, the binding yes. Nice bass.

Probably '81, haven't had the neck off in 20 years. Coupled with a Samamp prototype and a Bergantino 322, it's magic. Plays quite literally like having a great dream of playing.

About the J pickup. Deep in the heart of the universe, there is a reason. Or was, back in the 80s... I certainly would have done things differently now. Hey, I was 19. But it actually blends quite nicely, aside from balance and hum issues.

There was once a specialty bass store in Denver, can't remember the name. When I mentioned the J pickup, he told me, in no uncertain terms, that if I was going to modify them, I shouldn't buy nice basses. That was the last time I was in that store. That was also the year I bought the Surine. The store is now out of business. Wonder why.

I like that they do binding but no blocks. I've never seen real block inlays on a G&L neck.

As someone that owns a JB-2 let me ask you, I play in a cover band and need different sounds for different songs, not a big difference just a little..Can you get a nice warm sound out of it ? I've seen a few videos on youtube and the JB-2 seems to have a metallic sound, a little aggressive..Don't know if it's the bass or the way the person was playing..We play everything from Greenday to Oldies to dance stuff(gotta do what you gotta do), do you think it would fit the bill ? Thanks Man

BOUGHT a used G&L L-2000 Spalted Maple a few minutes ago!! Pics next week, as it is being shipped. Can't tell you how excited I am, this is my second (and FAR nicer) bass, and I will be playing a LOT more with this baby. It's gonna be fun to be "part of the club".

I could be wrong here, but possibly the allen screw enables one to reverse the direction of the paddles. Just a thought.

I just saw this.

I can not help you with the wire colors but I installed a Bartolini Preamp and Pickups in my L-250. I just could not get along with the stock electronics. Maybe I could had mine been a fretted bass but being fretless something had to change.


Got my bass mostly sorted wiring-wise. I couldn't get the series/parallel switch combo dialed, so it's series/kill switch. I use s/p on my fretted set-up, but can do w/o it on this fretless. It finally sounds as good as I always hoped it could/would. I ended up not using the Bartolini's and re-installing the Wilkinson's MM style pu's. Proves there's a variety of ways one can achieve a personally desired tone.

To not cause confusion, this thread was in relation to a custom fretless w/an L-2000 electronics harness installed.

Also, I'm not 100% positive on this, but I've heard that G&L is being purchased by Fender. Anyone else hear this?

I first heard thru a local (Bay Area) authorized G&L dealer that they were laying off a lot of employees. I then heard they were going bankrupt and being bought by Fender from an unrelated source.

Sounds like BS to me. They are at max production capacity so I don't see any credibility to the story.
