So obviously the first run metro express have a noise problem which is very much established. What's the solution, buy a noise gate pedal or a new onboard preamp altogether? At this point the bass is unplayable in live situations without the sound guy running me out on a rail! Maybe I can sell...

I've always heard Geddy in the mix without a pick. If a person knows how to EQ their rig there shouldn't be an issue IMO

I bought this for $120 and it worked fine with my active 18v Carvin Bass for around 7 gigs. Then it just went dead before a second set was to begin. It lights up and everything just won't connect. I kinda knew that for this price get get what you pay for. I guess that's about $17 a gig....Oh...
