I took out the pre and took some photos, I found a thread with someone who posted the older version but never took off the chip. I can do that, so I did it (It's back in place now btw, no damage I have a hot air station)

Jeez, if that's the fix, I'm glad he's replacing the bass and I'm replacing the guts in this one! Weird thing is I think all his basses but one are active, and they all work fine except this one for some reason!

You reckon that's all it might be? We can't make it crackle by jiggling the cable, and it works fine if we unplug the cable from the FX (leaving the cable in the bass) and plug direct into his amp, also it works if we leave the cable in the FX and plug in another bass. It has me buggered...
