    Which jazz bass and why?

None of the above. The only new Fender bass I've tried and really liked was an Aerodyne Special Jazz Bass (it was blue). Fresh looks and vibe as opposed to an attempt to recreate the past. Otherwise, I'm a G&L man.

    Double Bass Weight balance question

Haha. No, not that bad. Was just holding it too close to the body. Typical rookie mistake.

    Double Bass Weight balance question

Thanks all for the tips. Turns out I was holding the durn thing wrong. Once I got that straightened out, lots of other things start to fall into place. If there's a lesson here, I've certainly learned it.

Double Bass Books with walking exercises

Thanks to everybody who's posted for the suggestions. Since starting this thread several months ago I've acquired a double bass and am now focusing on that as my main instrument. I'm being disciplined by not getting any books and instead using my ear to get ideas. I've learned the hard way...

Double Bass Seeing teacher recommendations in Westchester or upper Manhattan

Hi. Apologies if there's an older thread with the same question, but I didn't see one. I'm about three months into double bass, focusing on jazz, and would like to find a teacher to work on bowing (French) in particular but also other technical matters. Feel free to self promote if you meet...

    Double Bass Weight balance question

Hi. I've been working at double bass for about the past month. I've noticed that I seem to be placing disproportionate weight on my right leg, as evidenced by the my right foot slowly going numb. I'm guessing that I"m unconsciously overcompensating for the extra effort from my left side...

    U.S. Peavey Club

I believe it was “Under a Shady Tree,” which was a faux reggae thing. The bass player was prominent in the video.

    U.S. Peavey Club

I am one of you! Got this for 100 bucks (case included) in the late 90's. Only recently started really playing it. It's been with me through too many moves and life changes to count and hasn't complained once. The pickup isn't the last word in precision (so to speak), but otherwise I can find...

Double Bass Books with walking exercises

Thanks. This is persuasive. I already listen to a ton of jazz and have many favorite bass players, although until now I've not listened to the bass parts as analytically as the lead parts. Transcribing is clearly where it's at. I thought a book might be helpful for developing some go-to...

Double Bass Books with walking exercises

Hi, bassheads. I'm new here. Long time guitar and harmonica player, less long time flute and sax player, now spending some time with bass, playing at a weekly workshop that lacked a bass player. Hoping for some suggestions on books (or better yet, websites) with exercises for building walking...
