    I hate pawn shops

My experience with pawn shops is they have crap, mostly low end, and want top dollar. Worse is the big chain pawnshops in the area. They are locked into their crappy prices. It's a 1 in 10,000 proposition to find something good I have found. And when there is a good guitar or bass, it's higher...

EBMM Stingray, review after a few weeks

I put d'addarios 45-130s on my SR5. Also I did the simple and reversible preamp mod seymour Duncan recommends when using their pickup. It moves the filter frequency and does open up the pickup. My main issue with the sound was it had this nasally oink tone and did not cut very well thru the mix...

    U.S. Peavey Club

Foundation 2000: I am thinking it was the 'cheaper' version of the Foundation series of old. I got mine from a guy who bought it new in 2002 for around $800. The body is light, and the neck is that oiled and hand rubbed type like the Stingray and Dimension basses. No neck dive because of how it...

EBMM Stingray, review after a few weeks

I have a MMSR5 and replaced the pickup with a Seymour Duncan custome shop AlNiCo. Great bass made even better with a great pickup.

Not sure how the massive duplication of pix happened, but my 2002 USA Foundation 2000 is a sure nice bass!

Squier VM and CV Jazz...what's the difference other than $80?

I have owned several CVs and many VMs. The VMs of many years ago are not like the newer ones. The CV basses all kick major butt and beat the pants off anything MIM. I actually play out with the white CV jazz bass as a secondary tuning bass (with upgraded tunes and DiMarzio pickups). The core of...

    Sterling S.U.B. Ray 5 questions

The mod allows for more of that classic bark and spank sound of a volume control rolled off like you get with the MMSR5 or a Fender Jazz bass. This is nice for pop and slap bass. I would have passed this on to the Ernie Ball site, but to suggest there is an error in design on an Ernie Ball bass...

    Sterling S.U.B. Ray 5 questions

Ok: did the 25k mod. In short: it's a must do for what is a mostly hard to use stock preamp on the SUB Ray5. Night and day difference and a minor but significant change in tone - much better and very like my USA Stingray 5 I have. If I understand the mod right, it puts the volume control at the...

    Sterling S.U.B. Ray 5 questions

Sending back SD MM5 replacement pickup: it is a ractanglular pickup with no screw ears on the sides and the Sterling SUB Ray5 cavity and pickguard will not allow the drop in replacement for a 5 string to work without changes to cavity routing and pickguard. So it goes back and I use it with...

Ok...I just ordered the Seymour Duncan MM replacement (SMB5A) pickup for my SUB... What is GAS called for chronic bass upgraders?

Just what does the 25k mod do? Why is it needed?

    Sterling S.U.B. Ray 5 questions

Agreed on the off shore observation: it seems like in the last 5 years the quality of low end gear is crazy good. While I like the feel and quality of a $1700 bass, the crowd you end up playing to does not know or care you are using a $300 bass that sounds the same. And thanx for the 25k mod info!

    Sterling S.U.B. Ray 5 questions

Anyone know anything about the 25k pot mod for these basses? Is it something that still needs to be done? I cannot find anything anywhere on this mod..

    Sterling S.U.B. Ray 5 questions

I got the real thing and I just picked up a SUB that was black with maple neck - just like my USA SR5. Neck feels pretty close to me. The dimensions of the SUB Ray5 are identical from what I can tell to the real thing. If you put a compensating nut, better bridge, tuners, preamp, pickup I think...
