So the Model One works fine! The replacement was relatively straightforward. The G-String position is a little off in relation to the pickup (similar to the post above) but I guess this is due to the bridge placement. The next investment will be a hipshot bridge but I am quite happy right now...

Would the DiMarzio Model One (Model One™ | DiMarzio) work as a replacement for the neck pickup?

Well, it won't. It happens, what I kind of expected, the hot wire will be grounded as well and the pup is dead. Has someone an idea how to fix this?

Unfortunately, I have the same problem. Although not that pronounced. Couldn't hear it at home. But I was in the practice room today and there it was. So, would simply grounding the pickup case help?

Worked like a charm! I pretty much did the same as you. For me, the un-braided wire was the most accessible too. The soldering was easy enough and the difference is huge! Really glad I did it, mixing both pups sound awesome now. On the other hand, it's a shame, of course, that you have to rewire...

So you simply changed the wires from one pick up at the mixing poti? Was there a problem with the shielding? Which pup did you change? I am gonna do it in the evening today.

Turning around the pickups wouldn't help, right?
