i was in a similar situation, im not shy im just not very outgoing person and was constantly getting digs from friends and relatives about moving more and how i didnt move which made me more concious about myself, i figured as long as you look like your enjoying yourself that will come across...

in my town there is somethign called a "Musicians collective" where a load of bands get together and get funding from the council to put on gigs etc. they put on their own night at the best (read only) club in town and its pay to play. i used to get crap from my singer who insisted we play it...
