I just noticed the striking similarity between the Peavey Max 208 and the Trace Elliott ELF head plus 2x8 cab. Both 200 watt, both 2x8, similar form factor, similar controls. And Trace Elliott is owned by Peavey. Is the Peavey just a Trace Elliott on the inside?

Agreed on “not judging a genre by it’s (album) cover”. I used to say “country all sucks” but then I discovered that there is more to the genre than what you hear on the radio, and I enjoy a good bit of it. Admittedly, I haven’t dug into smooth jazz but I’m not surprised that the same is true...

Mandolins still are - mandolas and octave mandolins (tuned GDAE one octave below a regular mandolin) are still common in Irish trad. Mandolin orchestras also are still around but are pretty uncommon.

Good to know. I'll probably give them a shot. I also might try swapping out my Chromes for another flat type. Got any suggestions on others that have a bit more brightness than typical flats like the Chromes do?

Are they stiff like flats? I like the smoothness and feel of Chromes (the only flats I've tried) but they are a little stiff for my liking.

I think OP is referencing stoner metal, a slow and groovy subgenre.

Personally, I'd go for the Ibanez mostly because I've found 6-strings have a tendency to be quite neck-heavy. If that's not a concern for you, I think they all look good.

My vote goes to an old Peavey. All their stuff was made in the US till the early 2000s and are built like tanks. I have a Microbass that's 20 watts and sounds pretty dang good. I think I paid $50 for it. I heard the build quality and sound went downhill after they moved east though...
