Ok. So I got my tracer built and verified operation with another broken amp. My question is can I run the b15 amp with the speaker disconnected in order to hear my test speaker or will it hurt the amp with no load?

Got the tracer built. I had to use two .001uf caps in parallel instead of a .002 but made it work. I might be able to use this to fix another solid state stereo amp I have as well.

After I fix my pellet stove tonight I will build that. Speaking of which if you need any help with pellet stoves let me know, I'm your guy. So I should be able to hear where the hum is created by stepping through the circuit. Just what I need. You are great. Thanks for the emotional support...

I think it started working again after I replaced the hum pot. I also found dirt/fuzz between the chassis and the tone pots so I'm sure cleaning that out helped as well. I didn't move the hum pot ground maybe I will try that or try moving the power cord ground. I almost want to learn how to use...

Sigh. Just ran to guitar center. Now I have a spare rectifier tube... .argg. No change. Really thought that would do it. Might have to take this somewhere as it's kind of consuming me. Is it possible I wired the transformer backwards?

Thanks for all your help David. Taking bets on whether my tolex is actually navy blue. It's so nasty I think it might just be black with filth.

Rectifier in my amp is a 5 pin 5ar4? Its labelled 5u4 on the chassis.....

Ok so I've done evertyhing except clean the tube sockets. If that doesn't work then I guess I will buy a new rectifier tube. Is it normal for the rectifier tube to make a tingle jingle noise? I think the ocean noise was a dirty ext amp jack shunt as that noise is gone now. The hum is still...

Mine does not but why do some of the portaflex amps have slots in the sides of the chassis? Almost like the plexi logo top slot but on the sides.

Ah ha! I see what you mean about the contact points on the shunt. The 250 ohm cement block resistor measured 256 ohms. I replaced it with a new flameproof ohmite resistor that measured 250.5. Hopefully my dexoit comes tomorrow. I have some mg chemicals contact cleaner, not sure if I can just use...

Thank you. I pulled the grill off....so nasty. The speaker looks good no dry rot on the surround. What can I use to clean the woofer that won't hurt it? Im sure this is where a lot of the bad smell is coming from.

So I replaced the 6sl7s, retensioned the sockets, installed the new hum pot, tried isolating both ext jacks at once, installed new led bulbs and still no change. I guess I described the noise incorrectly as hum. It sounds more like ocean noise if that makes sense. When I plugged an instrument...

If it comes down to it and I have to add the grid stopper resistor, it's placed on pin 1 of the 6l6gc tube feeding channel 2, correct? Looks like both channel 1 inputs already have them on the schematic.
