Adding Speakon to Ampeg PF-115 Cab

Update… With thanks to crazyBassClown’s helpful pointer to the block diagram that shows the crossover (HPF) as being after the speaker, I pulled the stock jackplate for a closer look, and found two unused quickconnect tabs labelled “Woofer B”. After metering them to confirm they were indeed...

Adding Speakon to Ampeg PF-115 Cab

I hadn’t noticed that, thank you. When I think of a passive two-way system, I imagine the crossover being earlier in the circuit, “routing” frequencies to their appropriate driver. This is much simpler, and yes, if that’s where it is in the circuit, then I agree it’s more likely a HPF. As for...

Adding Speakon to Ampeg PF-115 Cab

That makes sense. I have jacks on one of my guitar cabs that uses 2 Switchcraft 14Bs, where i can plug into one jack (either one) and get a mono 8-ohm cab, but if I plug into both jacks, the speakers are separated into 2 separate speakers at 16 Ohms. That way, I can run in stereo, or use two...

Adding Speakon to Ampeg PF-115 Cab

I want to add it to the cab. The amp already has a speakon out. I’ve checked out the cab’s jackplate, and there just isn’t enough space between the plate and the crossover PCB to add it there, so I was going to drill a hole in the wood below the jackplate. That’s not the part that I’m asking...

Adding Speakon to Ampeg PF-115 Cab

I was one of the unfortunate souls who had a PF500 fail - twice. I won’t go off about that, other than to say the first time it was repaired under warranty, the second time it was not covered, so it’s been sitting idle for a few years. Ive been using the V4B and Fridge for every gig. I...

    HOT AMPEG NEWS! PF20T, PF50T, PF112HLF

I have a question for JimmyM... By way of background, I have a number of amps that I use for different things - a fridge and SVT for big/outdoor shows, a V4B for larger clubs, the PF500/115HE for small stuff. The PF500 just packed it in - went into fail mode near the end of the first set...

    HOT AMPEG NEWS! PF20T, PF50T, PF112HLF

I added a pentode/triode switch to a 50-watt Marshall guitar amp, which functioned close enough to a "half-power" switch.

SVT 3 Pro vs. SVT CL tone comparison please.

It's not a question of were the master volume is set. An 8x10 putting out 80dB will move far more air than a 1x12 at 80 dB. It's simple physics. And when that increased air movement excites the room itself, you have successfully fscked up your FOH mix.

SVT 3 Pro vs. SVT CL tone comparison please.

He may have a point. I wouldn't say it's a wasted unless you're a world-tourer, but in order to get the most benefit from a rig like that, you should be playing larger venues, outdoor shows, theatres, etc. I've used my CL/810 in a couple of really tiny rooms recently, more as a giggle than...

Have we reached the point of disposable gear?

And those warranties are also overpriced. I was offered a $120 warranty on a $350 TV the other day. I bassically said that if it fails more than a year from now, it'll probably cost less to buy another one.

Have we reached the point of disposable gear?

I've had plenty of amps over the years, and in more than 35 years of live gigging, some of it "hard gigging" (being packed and unpacked multiple times a week, loaded into trucks, said trucks being rolled on the highway, etc), I've had exactly five failures of "old gear": A power supply, an...

Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

54, and still rockin'. What the hell is that crap these kids today are listening to? Sure ain't music. Sometimes my mouth is running before my brain's engaged. Can I join? BTW, it must be psychic day today - we were just talking about "number 9, number 9, number 9" at work about 20...
