    Ibanez hollowbody 4-to-5 conversion

Hi all, I just finished the easiest 4-to-5 conversion I've ever done. Total cost <$400, bass and build included. To begin with, it's an Ibanez ABF200 hollowbody, shortscale. And here's what I did: • Drilled three 3 mm holes in the string holder. • Sanded down the string slots in the bridge...

    Gibson Midtown 5-string/Piezo Mod

Well, since the the D string knob is slightly higher than normal a standard sized sticker won't fit. I would have to look for some special solution. But most of all, I didn't have the patience to wait for it to arrive in the mail.

I'm looking for a bass that may or may not exist...

Yeah, I've been checking out Godins as well. I'd love to have one some day, but it's a matter of string spacing. The reason I make these 4-to-5-conversions is that I want really tight string spacing to enable my pick playing. So... When I do get one I will have to mod that too. And ahem... It's...

I'm looking for a bass that may or may not exist...

Pfff... No it's not Sandberg patchwork. No it's not built like this for cosmetic reasons. I wanted a piezo only bass as it suits my style of playing (with a pick). So I built one. It's a paulownia (super lightweight) body with an Allparts neck, plus ABM single piezo bridges, Ghost Acousti-Phonic...

    Gibson Midtown 5-string/Piezo Mod

Yesterday I completed my new build with the final touches and adjustments. After months of planning and working on it I couldn't be more pleased, the result is simply amazing. Let me introduce the Gibson Midtown 5P. Last summer I bought this Cherry Red Midtown Standard on eBay. The plan was to...

For Sale Gibson midtown standard with Hipshot Suretone

Three questions... Is this bass still for sale? Do you have a hardcase for it? Would you ship to Sweden?

    Piezo only Precision Bass

Haha! Thanks. But build you one, I don't think so... I'm slow and expensive. Hehe. And the build is really easy, and much cheaper if you do it yourself. Naturally I will gladly assist with all specs, where-to-buy, instructions, guidelines, hints and tips if you're up for it.

    Piezo only Precision Bass

Well... No. The sound has db qualities, but it doesn't sound like a db. And that wasn't what I was aiming for. To this day I still haven't heard a bass guitar that sounds like a db. Ever. They might come more or less close. But in my opinion there is no such thing.

    Piezo only Precision Bass

For those of you that are interested in getting piezos I just want to mention that there are piezo replacement saddles for Fender style bridges available (incl. screws and springs). This means that you don't need to replace the whole bridge. Easier installation and cheaper...

    Piezo only Precision Bass

I don't see how the two systems could interplay the way that mags do as they really are two separate systems that only get blended at the output jack. This bass is piezo only. But I have tried a few that have both mags and piezos (and actually own a Steinberger Synapse, which also has both), and...

    Piezo only Precision Bass

You're right. That would make a much more versatile bass. And I confess. I bought a set of EMG P-X's and a standard cut pick guard for the build. It was only when I had installed the piezos and tried them out I decided to go "piezo only" on this one. The look is simply too cool. And the sound IS...

Mmm... Neck-postition Darkstar. Yum! Next build... I promise!

    Piezo only Precision Bass

Yeah. Just like Steve Swallow (during the 90s) the sound has a weird synth quailty. Only it is very much exaggerated here in the clip with direct signal. Through my rig the sound is more natural and balanced – more acoustic, if you want. But the weird quality is certainly still there. And I love it!

    Piezo only Precision Bass

Yeah. The direct signal is a bit brutal. It sounds much different through my rig. I will certainly experiment with different strings before I'm there. Right now it's just a set of cheap stainless Warwick strings. I'm waiting on a LaBella delivery that will give me a few options to start with...
