ok cool, so basically just use my ear to judge whether it's being pushed too far? How would you do so if you were using the gain to get some 'dirt'? Would it sound different enough to be able to distinguish?

If you had taken ten seconds to go back and read you'd understand that I had phrased the question poorly and was actually asking if there was a possibility of damaging the head itself from pushing it too hard. Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys. Definitely put me at ease. I definitely don't think I explained the questions properly. I was told you could damage an amp by pushing it into clipping and I was worried that would happen. I don't know too much about the technical side of things so I thought I would...

I don't think I explained it properly tbh. I basically meant is there any danger of pushing the amp to clipping and damaging something.

There's plenty of Fenders out there that are fine. I've owned quite a few and never had any issues. This seems like something that would have happened after it's left the factory
